Dear IWS friends, welcome back to our magazine!
Today we are here to tell you about the latest creation of the Geneva-based maison that has recently arrived on the watchmaking scene: Furlan Marri.
In fact, the Swiss brand has just unveiled the new Disco Volante, a watch that brings back in a modern key a design typical of the 1930s, animated by the brand new caliber 7001.
Furlan Marri
For those who are not familiar with it, Furlan Marri is a micro brand born in 2021, the brainchild of Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri.
Right from the start it proved capable of fitting into this very competitive field, thanks to its value for money and retro style.
The newly unveiled watch fits into the Mechanical line, along with the “Sector” and “Outback Elegy” models.
The New Furlan Marri Disco Volante
As mentioned earlier, this new watch is inspired by cases made in the 1930s, reinterpreting the style of 1980s disco, with a result that left us speechless.
Of the watches from which it takes its inspiration, bones those born at the height of Art Deco, the concept of large hidden lugs is taken up. In the rounded shape of the case, the winding crown at 3 o’clock is integrated so as to make the design of the timepiece as clean as possible.
To adapt to the 21st century, the watch, unlike the smaller models of the era from which it takes its cue, has a case size of 38 mm.
The dial features a two-tone design, in which the colored part is made with a radial finish along with a division into four sectors with a semi-sectorial design. In the first sector, at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock, we can see the applied hour markers as well as, at 6 o’clock, the small continuous seconds counter.
In the remaining sectors we find two types of scales: the outermost one shows the minutiae at five-minute intervals, while the innermost one is based on the canonical 12 hours.
The movement
Thanks to the presence of the exposed case back, it is possible to admire the hand-wound Peseux 7001 movement that gives life to the new Furlan Marri Disco Volante.
It is a renowned caliber born in 1971 that displays the excellence of Swiss watchmaking, combining precision and reliability, with a thickness of only 2.5 mm. Such a slim movement allows for an overall watch thickness of only 8.95 mm.
The brand’s attention to detail can also be seen in the bridges (meticulously redesigned) and finishes, alternating fantastic côtes de Genève along with diamond-polished edges, mirror-polished screws, and beveled around stones.
High-quality finishes, thanks to the supervision entrusted to the maison’s technical manager, Sébastien Rousseau.
Variants of the new Furlan Marri Disco Volante.
Furlan Marri presented three different variants of this model, each with different colors. All three feature a French vegetable-tanned cowhide leather strap in different colors according to the dial.
Havana Disco
This first version features a salmon-colored dial complemented by a brown hue reminiscent of the first Havana Salmon Mechaquartz watch. Also applied to the dial is Super-LumiNova Old Radium (C5), which ensures clear visibility even in the evening.
Disco celeste
In this second version, the Disco Volante becomes Disco Celeste, with shades on white and blue making the dial more vivid. In this case, the luminescent material used is Super-LumiNova BGW9, which can emit, at night, a light on the shade of sky blue/white.
Disco Verde
The latest version features a green and cream dial with Super-LumiNova Old Radium, giving the watch a green color in the night hours.
Price and final considerations
Furlan Marri’s new Disco Volante starts at a price of CHF 2,500 (excluding tax).
Furlan Marri is definitely an interesting up-and-coming brand, and with this Disco Volante it shows us its construction skills combined with a very high attention to detail, typical of a Swiss watch. We really liked this model, and which variant would you choose?
