Imagine the Northern Lights, shooting stars, an eclipse: breathtaking and rare scenes that most people dream of seeing at least once in their lifetime. Laurent Grasso has been able to capture the magic and intensity of these natural phenomena, making them wearable on the wrist at all times through this new and exclusive version of the Octo Finissimo. This watch does not just measure time, but turns into a window to the universe and the immaterial.
“I was thinking of iridescent clouds, mysterious shapes created with suspended particles, water and light,” Grasso explains, describing how he wanted to represent the magic of an ephemeral phenomenon. The result is a unique dial that evokes a dreamlike, disorienting dimension: is what we see real, or just an illusion?
Characterized by a deep midnight blue, the Octo Finissimo Laurent Grasso seems to reflect the stillness of a sky after sunset, with light caressing the case and bracelet in sandblasted titanium with PVD coating, the result of a treatment that gives the surface a uniform opacity, evoking an almost abyssal depth. The heart of the dial is occupied by a “cloud” that seems to float around projecting rainbow reflections, an effect achieved thanks to screen printing with metallic pigments.
“I wanted to represent iridescent clouds, rare and almost magical phenomena,” Grasso says. Indeed, the cloud exudes an elusive and unique presence, just like the natural formations that inspired it.
The three spheres seem to “pop” out of this soft cloud, defying visual perception. This ethereal design, blending dream and reality, is a constant in the art of Grasso, who has been exploring the intangible and invisible for more than two decades through his video art, sculpture and installation works.
The precision of the ultra-thin BVL 138 movement, only 2.23 mm thick and with a 60-hour power reserve, testifies to Bvlgari’s technical savoir-faire. Powered by a micro-rotor and decorated with“Côtes de Genève” work and perlage, the movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back above which appears Grasso’s signature and the image of a cloud.
Since 2014, the Octo Finissimo has represented the pinnacle of Bvlgari’s watch design and innovation. With its celebrated octagonal design, the watch combines elegance and minimalism, inspired by the monumental interior of the Basilica of Maxentius in Rome.
