Last year, Longines launched a reissue of the brand’s iconic watch, the Longines Pilot Majetek. The timepiece is inspired by the model created in 1935, initially designed for Czech aviators, but also produced over the years for civilian use. Thanks to its faithful design, it has been a great success among enthusiasts.
The most distinctive design element of this watch is its cushion case, with a size of 43 mm, larger than the original’s 40 mm. The dial, in matte black, provides an aviator look, thanks to raised Super-Luminova Old Radium numerals and a railroad minute scale.
What sets this watch apart, however, is the rotating knurled bezel, which controls the position of a small luminescent triangle inside the case, allowing time intervals to be compared based on the position of the hour and minute hands. Unlike the historical model, where the bezel and crystal moved together, thus not ensuring the watch’s water resistance, this modern version sees the bezel independent of the rest of the watch, ensuring water resistance.
Longines Pilot Majetek in Titanium
Due to the great success of the model presented last year, Longines has decided to introduce a new edition of the Pilot Majetek.
For this new version, the big difference is the case produced in grade 5 titanium, which gives the watch an even more modern look and reduced weight compared to the steel model.
The other features remain virtually unchanged; in this model, too, water resistance is guaranteed up to 100 mt and the movement is the L893.6, which boasts up to 72 hours of power reserve; these features grant the watch COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) certification, this certification process subjects the finished watch, case and movement working, to a test period of fifteen consecutive and uninterrupted days.
The entire watch undergoes a series of function tests in different positions and at three different temperature levels to ensure extreme accuracy. As well as the other model in the catalog, it features on the outside of the case at nine o’clock, a commemorative plaque with the words “1935,” to commemorate the year the Pilot Majetek model was patented.
However, this new model will be limited to a production run of only 1935 pieces, and available soon at Longines retailers. The watch will be paired with a black technical fabric strap and presented together with a Heritage box in the same color.
Final Thoughts
In our view, the Longines Pilot Majetek represents an excellent modern interpretation of a vintage watch, retaining the distinctive features of the original model while offering enthusiasts the best current technical features, such as a titanium case.
If the model unveiled last year was a remarkable success, we are sure that this newly unveiled version will be no less, seeing the 1935 pieces produced sold out in a very short time.
