In the world of haute horlogerie, collaborations often lead to remarkable creations that push the boundaries of watchmaking artistry. The latest testament to this spirit of innovation is the H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium, an extraordinary timepiece that marries the signature aesthetics and technical prowess of two renowned watch manufacturers. This collaborative masterpiece combines H. Moser & Cie.’s minimalist elegance with MB&F’s avant-garde designs, resulting in a truly unique and captivating wristwatch.
The creation of the timepiece was announced a few months ago with the unveiling of all the watches participating at the Only Watch 2023 edition. However, the two manufacturer were not ready to show their latest creation to the public and used mysterious and psychedelic to deceive the public. Finally, during the Geneva Watch Days 2023, the watch has been presented!
Design Language and Inspiration
At first glance, the H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium catches the eye with its distinctive steel case, measuring 42.3 mm in diameter (just like its perpetual calendar predecessor) and 17.0 mm in height. The case’s slightly domed sapphire crystal offers a mesmerizing view of the intricate dial within. The case-back, also adorned with sapphire crystal, grants a peek into the intricate mechanical movement, a treat for watch enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
Even though Moser and MB&F have already worked together, I truly believe this is the apex of their collaboration. This new watch brings to the table all the best that both watch manufactures can offer and fuse it in the most captivating way possible. The amazing Streamliner shape is the house in which the iconic MB&F balance wheel floats and, most importantly, the Panda DJ works his magic playing the minute-repeater.
The background where all the elements dance together is a beautiful aquamarine fumé dial with a sunburst pattern, creating a mesmerizing play of light and color.
A Symphony of Movement and Artistry
The beating heart of the H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium is the partly skeletonized HMC 906 Manufacture calibre. This three-dimensional hand-wound movement boasts an impressive diameter of 33.0 mm, accommodating 395 meticulously crafted components and 37 jewels. The movement’s frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour ensures precision timekeeping.
What truly sets this timepiece apart is the large balance wheel, delicately suspended above the dial. This feature not only adds a touch of visual drama but also enhances the accuracy of timekeeping. The movement’s finishing is a testament to the artisans’ dedication, with bridges and the main plate graced by anthracite grey rhodium-plating, adorned with the iconic horizontal double Moser stripes.
A Panda DJ playing the minute-repeater… WHAT?!
Max Büsser definitely made us enjoy its earliest creation representing animals, especially the HM 10 Panda made for Only Watch 2021. However, this is an absolutely different level! I will say it one more time: in this timepiece the Panda is a disc jokey metaphorically playing the minute repeater on his mixing desk. In the way too serious world of watchmaking this is a breath of pure and fresh air.
You can see the Panda at the 10 o’clock position on the dial close to the minute-repeater hammers. Painstakingly crafted by hand, this whimsical addition in white gold features turntables and a mixing desk.
Final Thoughts
The H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium transcends the boundaries of traditional watchmaking, offering a harmonious fusion of elegance, innovation, and technical mastery. With its intricate movement, playful details, and captivating design, this unique piece represents a true collaboration of horological excellence. As a limited edition masterpiece, it is destined to find its place among the most discerning watch collectors’ prized possessions, showcasing the beauty that emerges when two horological visionaries join forces. With an estimate in the range of CHF 200,000 and 400,000, we predict that it could even higher.
