Here we are, watch enthusiasts! Today, I have a truly special piece of news to share with you. From February 12th to 24th, OMEGA and Sotheby’s are teaming up for a unique auction. For this occasion, a set of 11 MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold suitcases, each containing the 11 OMEGA x Swatch “Mission to Moonshine Gold” watches, will be up for auction. This marks the first time these models are offered together in a single set, and the special suitcases will also be available for purchase for the first time. But the best part? The proceeds from the auction will go to Orbis International, a non-governmental organization and a long-time partner of Omega, fighting avoidable blindness and vision impairment worldwide.
Before the auction concludes on February 24th, the 11 “Mission to Moonshine Gold” suitcases will be on display in 11 OMEGA Boutiques around the world – from Zurich to Tokyo, passing through Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, New York, London, Milan, Paris, and Sydney. This will give visitors the opportunity to closely admire this unique collection.
Orbis International
Orbis’s work is particularly valuable for children, as it offers them the gift of sight, allowing them to see their parents, the Moon, and the starry sky for the first time. In addition to numerous programs and operations aboard the Flying Eye Hospital, Orbis is dedicated to training ophthalmic healthcare personnel in the world’s most needy regions. The partnership between Omega and Orbis dates back to 2011, and this year’s auction underscores the brand’s renewed commitment to supporting this important cause.
Omega X Swatch
If you follow us, you surely already know this, but for those new to the world of watchmaking, let me introduce the watches in this set. The OMEGA x Swatch collection debuted in March 2022, receiving an unprecedented response in the watchmaking world, thanks to a marketing strategy that was nothing short of brilliant. Made of BIOCERAMIC, the 11 models feature colors inspired by space and planets, paying homage to the legendary design of the OMEGA Speedmaster.
In 2023, the models were revisited in the “Mission to Moonshine Gold” versions, featuring a seconds hand in 18K Moonshine gold, a distinctive alloy patented by OMEGA and used in its most iconic models, giving yellow gold a softer tone and greater resistance to discoloration. Each watch features unique details, such as the strawberry motif of the Strawberry Moon model in July or the floral design of the Flower Moon model in May.
The suitcases, containing a gold monocle with the OMEGA x Swatch logo and a unique coin engraved with the 3-letter aviation code of the city shown, are equally special. Each suitcase is associated with a specific city, with the code engraved on the side of all the watches inside. The auction will take place at Sotheby’s and will be accessible online worldwide at Sothebys.com, where bids can be placed from February 12th until February 24th, coinciding with the next full moon.
