Dear Friends of IWS, Live from Watches and Wonders, we are here to tell you about the main novelties that Piaget has unveiled for this edition of the most important event of the year, dedicated to the world of watchmaking.
In addition to a new version of the iconic Polo 79 and a variant of what has been officially christened the “Andy Warhol,” Piaget today unveils the new Sixtie, a watch entirely dedicated to the female audience.
Let us now go on to discover all the details of the main new watches from the historic maison founded in 1874.
The new Piaget Polo 79 in white gold
In 1979, Piaget, after having produced timepieces that all shared an unmistakable style, so much so that they did not need to have a name in order to be identified, launched on the market the maison’s first watch distinguished by a name. In fact, the Polo 79 was born, a watch completely different in design from all the other models of the maison, so much so that it had the honor of being the first watch of the Swiss maison to be identified with a dedicated “appellation.”
Characterized by the famous gadroon motif, which alternates polished and brushed lines seamlessly from the case to the integrated bracelet, the Polo 79 was made only in precious materials. The most famous and well-known model is undoubtedly the yellow gold version, although, alongside this, an all-white gold version was created that is much rarer to find nowadays.
Last year was an important moment for Piaget as it saw the light of a reissue of the Polo 79 completely in yellow gold that was immediately appreciated by the watchmaking world.
Today, at Watches and Wonders, the house instead unveils a reissue of the rare white gold version of the Polo 79, going to replicate the design and shapes seen on last year’s model in yellow gold.
At the intent of the elegant 38 mm-diameter white gold case beats the ultra-thin 1200P1 manufacture automatic caliber. Completing the timeless design of this iconic watch is the integrated white gold bracelet.
The New Piaget Andy Warhol
Piaget’s highlights also include new versions of the exclusive reference 15102 born in 1972 and worn by the famous Andy Warhol. Later renamed Black Tie in 2014, this watch was recently renamed after the American artist, thanks to a partnership between Piaget and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
In addition to the recent Clou de Paris version, which we talked about in article dedicated along with the whole history that has always linked Andy Warhol to Piaget, highly exclusive versions of this incredible watch with its generous 45 mm diameter case are now being added to Watches and Wonders.
Among the new additions to the Andy Warhol collection, the one that has just literally left me speechless is the High Jewellery version above which triumphs the opal dial surrounded by the bezel with three rows of baguette-cut sapphires. This is a highly exclusive model featuring Yves Piaget’s favorite gemstone that has always been considered a symbol of purity and truth.
Alongside this precious new version, we also find the new variants that complement the previous Clou de Paris model: a model with a tiger’s eye carved dial and two others with, respectively, a meteorite green and meteorite white dial.

The new Piaget Sixtie
Watches and Wonders was finally the occasion to unveil to the world the new creation for the female audience by Piaget. In fact, the maison presented the new Sixtie, a watch with a 29-mm-diameter case in the shape of a trapezoid that recalls in full the historical heritage of the house.
This is a completely unique timepiece that takes inspiration from the glitz of the late 1960s, a very important period for Piaget as it was this very maison that redefined parameters of preciousness and women’s watches. The result of the work of the maison’s Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire, the new Piaget Sixtie fully embodies the concept of the jeweled watch, taking inspiration from the past, but without forgetting the touch of modernity by which it is characterized.
There are five versions presented of this elegant wristwatch: the first has a white dial and case and bracelet made entirely of rose gold; the second has a white dial and steel case and bracelet, along with a precious diamond bezel. The third, again with a white dial, has a case and bracelet in a perfect mix of steel and rose gold; the fourth, again with the same dial, features a rose gold case and bracelet as well as a precious diamond bezel; finally, the last variant, features a turquoise stone dial and a rose gold case and bracelet.
Uniting all versions is the distinctive design of the flexible bracelet with interlaced trapeze links. Finally, powering these precious new timepieces is an in-house quartz caliber.
Conclusions
With these major new models we have just told you about, Piaget, once again, has shown how important it is to draw on what is the historical legacy of a maison in terms of design, especially if it is a past that gave birth to such masterpieces and which, today, decades later, are revived in a modern key ready to be handed down to future generations.
