The world of sports watches is set to experience a wave of adrenaline with the new launch of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection, premiered at Watches and Wonders, in Geneva. April 1 marks the beginning of a new era for a timeless icon, thanks to a collection that enchanted watch and motorsport enthusiasts in the 1980s. After decades of success and, above all, after the maison’s recent entry into F1 as official timekeeper, TAG Heuer revisits the Formula 1 model with an even bolder, innovative and cutting-edge design designed to win the hearts of a new generation of fans.
The design of the new Tag Heuer Formula 1
Less “toy-watch” than the first collection, the new Formula 1 models are ready to impress with their more sophisticated design and higher quality of finish. Each watch is designed to express the energy and spirit of racing while still maintaining a high level of elegance and versatility. With a 38 mm diameter case, the new models are more ergonomic than ever, with a sandblasted steel finish and DLC treatment giving them an aggressive yet refined look.
These new models are directly inspired by the original collection, but offer significant improvements in both comfort and performance. The case features optimized proportions for a smooth fit, while details such as buckshot indexes treated with Super-LumiNova and improved “Mercedes”-style hands ensure perfect readability in any situation. The bidirectional bezel, made of biopolyamide or TH-Polylight, a lightweight and durable material, adds an extra touch of innovation and practicality.
The new Formula 1 collection features nine distinct models, each with a unique proposition. Three of these are part of the permanent collection and are available with a white or blue dial, a timeless classic that never ceases to captivate fans. The other six models are limited editions that celebrate the marriage of innovative design and connection to the racing world, with bold color combinations such as black and red, blue and black, and white and green, thanks in part to the use on some models of bio-polyamide to make the case.
New, colorful, attractive but, above all, fun, each watch in the collection is a tribute to TAG Heuer’s historical connection with motorsport, but at the same time a clear message toward the future: these watches are designed to be worn as much on the racetrack as in everyday life, for those seeking style and performance in one accessory. With a range from a sporty rubber strap to an elegant steel bracelet, adaptability and comfort are assured.
The caliber of the new Tag Heuer Formula 1
At the heart of these new watches is the Solargraph TH50-00 movement, a true innovation in the world of watchmaking. This movement, which harnesses solar energy, is a symbol of TAG Heuer’s commitment to sustainability and performance.
It is powered by sunlight or artificial light, reducing the need for traditional batteries and providing an outstanding battery life. Just two minutes of exposure to light is enough to get a full day’s charge, while a full charge allows up to ten months of continuous operation. This is yet another step toward innovation, combining Swiss precision with sustainability. In short, the new Solargraph movement is a unique innovation with which the collection marks a significant step towards sustainability.
The TH-Polylight material, used for some parts of the case and bezel, is lightweight, durable and highly versatile, allowing it not only to improve the ergonomics of the watch, but also to add an extra layer of elegance.
Conclusions and availability
1986 was a pivotal year for TAG Heuer: not only for the debut of the Formula 1 collection, but also for the official birth of the TAG Heuer name, with the acquisition of the Heuer brand by Techniques d’Avant Garde. This move marked the beginning of a journey that would revolutionize luxury watchmaking by introducing innovative concepts in the design and functionality of racing watches. The arrival of Formula 1 represented the perfect fusion between the worlds of racing and watchmaking, resulting in a collection that made its way into the hearts of fans with its mix of bright colors, modern design, and direct link to motorsport.
With the launch of the new collection, TAG Heuer continues to celebrate its long history of partnership with Formula 1, a collaboration that has spanned decades. The association with teams of legendary caliber such as Ferrari, McLaren, and more recently Oracle Red Bull Racing, has made this collection a symbol of speed, precision, and innovation, qualities that characterize both the racing world and the world of high-end watchmaking.
Definitely the watch with a deep connection to the world of F1 that we have been waiting for, the new TAG Heuer Formula 1, in versions from the permanent collection, will be available from April 1, 2025, with a suggested retail price starting at 1,750 euros (100 euros more for the bracelet model). Some models, on the other hand, will be available as limited editions on special occasions, such as Formula 1 Grand Prix races, later this year. There is no better time to get on the track with TAG Heuer and experience the excitement of a collection that knows no obstacles, only speed and style.
