Dear friends, welcome back to IWS live from Watches and Wonders.

For this news-filled edition, Panerai, in addition to an incredible GMT with perpetual calendar, focused on the Luminor family with new watches that redesign the case of the iconic timepiece, inspired by what were the “Pre-Vendôme” creations of 1993.

In fact, Panerai’s celebrated collection is enriched with new details and fine materials, while maintaining firm ties with its tradition that has always been synonymous with innovation and refinement: two values that emerge clearly in the three new references. Let us now go together to discover the new Luminors.

Luminor Bakery: tradition in titanium and steel

Created in the 1960s with a purely functional purpose, the Panerai Luminor has become an icon in the world of watchmaking. Originally, its mission was clear: to ensure excellent visibility for Italian Navy raiders engaged in underwater missions, where legibility could mean the difference between life and death.

Today, while retaining its DNA from the past, the Panerai Luminor has won the public over with its distinctive design, characterized by its crown-protecting bridge case and sandwich dial, elements that enhance its aesthetics and functionality. The new models presented today at Watches & Wonders continue this legacy, declining in two materials of excellence: steel and titanium.

The steel version, available with a black, blue, white or light blue dial, is a tribute to the brand’s tradition. The 44mm-diameter case, 12 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the Luminors currently in the collection, retains the classic design with a clamping lever on the crown, while the dial made with a sunray finish features small seconds at nine o’clock and a date window at three o’clock.

New to Panerai’s main collection is the use of Super-LumiNova® X2, an innovative technology that significantly improves the luminosity of the dial, ensuring optimal legibility even in low-light conditions. This detail is a clear homage to the origins of the Luminor, designed to offer uncompromising visibility.

Inside the case beats the caliber P.980, a state-of-the-art automatic movement with a three-day power reserve. The movement is designed to ensure stability and precision, thanks to a traversing balance bridge that enhances its performance. The movement also features the stop-second function, which stops the seconds when the crown is pulled out, allowing extremely accurate time setting. Tested in six different positions to ensure maximum reliability, this caliber represents a significant technical evolution for the collection.

The movement finishes are visible through the transparent case back, which seals the watch, guaranteeingwater resistance to 500 meters for the first time in the collection’s history. Panerai has further raised the bar by testing its models at pressures 25 percent higher than stated, in accordance with the strictest reliability standards.

For the steel variants of the new Luminors, Panerai is also introducing a version with a steel bracelet, ideal for more sporty, everyday use. The entire watch is made of a special alloy composed of iron, molybdenum, chromium and nickel, elements that ensure greater resistance to corrosion and scratches.

The innovatively designed bracelet features a distinctive V-shape that tapers progressively from the case to the buckle, improving ergonomics and comfort on the wrist. It also features the Quick Length Adjustment system, which allows the bracelet to extend 2 mm on each side to accommodate natural variations in wrist size due to temperature and daily activity.

Alongside the steel versions, Panerai introduces the Luminor Marina in titanium, a model that shares the same technical features and dimensions as the four new steel versions, but differs in case material. Made precisely of Grade 5 titanium, this timepiece offers an ideal combination of lightness, corrosion resistance and durability. Compared to steel, titanium is 44 percent lighter, providing greater comfort on the wrist without compromising strength.

The aesthetic of this model recalls the brand’s military past, with an olive green dial accentuating the connection. The strap, made of suede leather in the same hue, adds a touch of distinctive style, creating a harmonious contrast with the titanium case.

Complementing the practicality of all the new models is the PAM Click Release System™, which allows for quick and intuitive replacement of the strap or bracelet (in the steel variant with a sun-blue dial), making the watch even more versatile.

Conclusions

With this year’s new models, Panerai stays true to tradition by introducing important innovations in a timeless design with a strong nod to its roots. Tradition and innovation come together in these models, which combine iconic design with cutting-edge performance.
