Glashütte Original has embodied the essence of German watchmaking for more than a century and a half. Its origin dates back to 1845, when the first master watchmakers decided to settle in Glashütte, turning a small Saxon town into a timekeeping capital.

As early as the 1870s, local timepieces had achieved a level of accuracy beyond that achievable by astronomical observation, paving the way for innovations such as the telegraph connection with the Berlin Observatory to receive regular time signals. This quest for accuracy has gone through wars, political changes and industrial challenges without affecting the continuity of tradition.

Today, Glashütte Original keeps this heritage alive by producing up to 95 percent of its movement components in-house, a unique testament to the union of craftsmanship and technological know-how.
180 Years of Glashütte Original: PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition

In 2025, the year that marks the 180th anniversary of watchmaking at Glashütte, the house has chosen to celebrate this occasion with a symbolic model, the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition. The reference to the stars, which were the first time references of the 19th century pioneers, finds expression in the blue aventurine dial. This material, used for the first time by Glashütte Original, reproduces the depth of the night sky dotted with luminous gleams, combining aesthetic suggestion and technical mastery.

The classic off-center arrangement of hours, minutes, and small seconds, combined with the Panoramic Date at 4 o’clock and moon phase disc with white mother-of-pearl moon, creates a balanced ensemble consistent with the identity of the Pano collection. Every detail responds to functional logic without sacrificing strong visual impact.

Noble materials and construction details
The choice of platinum for the 40 mm case underscores the exceptional nature of the model. With a thickness of 12.8 mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 47 mm, the timepiece maintains balanced proportions that ensure wearability and comfort.

The domed sapphire crystal, treated with a double anti-reflective coating, ensures optimal readability in all conditions, while the transparent case back allows visitors to admire the movement and its finishing. Solid gold applied indexes and white gold hands with SuperLumiNova® confirm the attention to detail, offering functionality without compromising aesthetics.

The strap, available in Louisiana alligator leather or blue synthetic material, is completed with a platinum deployant clasp, an element that ensures robustness and consistency with the overall level of the timepiece.
The new 92-14 caliber: engineering and innovation
The PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition marks the debut of Caliber 92-14, an in-house automatic movement developed to offer long-lasting performance and chronometric stability. Its frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and 100-hour power reserve place it among the highest performing movements in its class. The use of the silicon balance spring, a material not subject to magnetic fields and insensitive to thermal variations, ensures reliability even in critical conditions. The construction includes an anti-shock oscillating system, an additional measure of precision protection.
Aesthetically, the movement is finished in the Saxon school style: three-quarter plate with Glashütte band finish, blued screws, and hand-applied decorations. Each piece is individually assembled and adjusted, confirming the craftsmanship approach that distinguishes the manufacture.
Conclusions and price
With only 180 numbered pieces, the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition is both a celebratory watch and a true collector’s piece. The combination of noble materials, technical innovations, and symbolic connection to Glashütte’s history makes it a model destined to attract the interest of enthusiasts and collectors.
Available from September 26, 2025 in Glashütte Original boutiques and at selected retailers for €40,000 (including tax), it is a tangible testimony to the 180-year journey of the manufacture and its ability to combine tradition, precision and modernity. Not just a timepiece but a technical and cultural manifesto of what German watchmaking is capable of expressing at the highest level.
