The Pelagos FXD is not simply a watch; it represents the intersection of decades of tradition and innovation. TUDOR, for years, had the privilege of adorning the wrists of US Navy divers. In the 1950s, these dive watches were rigorously tested for members of the Navy, becoming part of their official gear in 1958.

Now, it is evident that Tudor has decided to continue to enrich this history by investing in the creation of new FXDs. Witness the watches for the Marine Nationale and those created for Alinghi RedBull Racing. Along the same lines, Tudor is introducing a new Pelagos FXD and we were guests at their launch so we could see the watch firsthand.

Design and functionality

At first glance, the Pelagos FXD looks like a direct descendant of the Oyster Prince Submariner ref. 7016. The differences, apart from the case material, are most obvious on the bezel; starting with the knurling, and ending with the hour markers.

This Pelagos FXD boasts a matte black dial, enhanced by luminescent hour markers and distinctive “Snowflake” hands dating back to 1969. The one-piece titanium case, 42 mm in width, is robust, ensuring strength and reliability. The bezel, unidirectional and made of titanium, is embellished with a ceramic disc with a clear and lasting luminescence.

A Distinctive Strap

The Pelagos FXD fabric strap pays homage to tradition. While TUDOR watches were often seen with black or green fabric straps, the new model features a forest green fabric strap with red detailing and an additional rubber strap, offering a fresh reinterpretation of a classic design.

The Heartbeat of the Watch

At the heart of the Pelagos FXD beats the Manufacture Caliber MT5602, a masterpiece of precision and above all endurance. Certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Control (COSC), the caliber stands out for its reliability.

The Heritage

Since the late 1950s, the US Navy has maintained close ties with TUDOR. History tells of these watches accompanying sailors on submarine missions, serving as essential instruments in diving activities and maintenance of submarine bases. TUDOR watches, over the years, have become synonymous with precision and reliability, confirming their key role in US Navy equipment.

Final thoughts

Tudor Pelagos FXD

With this Pelagos FXD, Tudor enriches the collection by carrying out a policy now known to all that is to modify without distorting. Some of the criticism we have heard concerns the excessive size of 42 mm, but honestly, less than 42 mm for a diver designed to go on huge wrists like those of the U.S. Navy? Honestly, that seems like a more than fair measurement.

Moreover, considering the price of EUR 4,190.00, Tudor confirms its ability to offer impeccable value for money.
