Tudor, in collaboration with Alinghi Red Bull Racing, has unveiled two new Pelagos FXD watch models inspired by sailing competitions. Further confirmation of a partnership that has lasted just over a year and is not slow to produce toys for its fans. The two new watches feature innovative cases made of carbon composite, titanium and stainless steel, reflecting the daring spirit of sailors who venture into the most competitive regattas in history.
The design inspired by Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s AC75.
The Pelagos FXD models are inspired by Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s AC75, a vessel that represents the pinnacle of maritime engineering. The patented combination of carbon, titanium and stainless steel used in the construction of the AC75’s hull is reflected in the innovative materials used in the cases and bezels of Tudor’s newcomers. The case water-resistant to 200 meters is a sea veteran, initially developed in collaboration with French Navy divers and combat swimmers, and features a robust design with fixed bars for attaching the strap. The bi-directional rotating bezel with Swiss Super-LumiNova® Grade X1 luminescent coating and 60-minute retrograde graduation echoes the aesthetics of the AC75.
Both Pelagos FXD models feature a matte blue dial with applied hour markers made of luminescent ceramic composite. The “Snowflake” hands, an iconic feature of Tudor dive watches since 1969, are coated with luminescent Swiss Super-LumiNova® Grade X1.
The blue of the Alinghi Red Bull Racing team, echoes the color of the AC75’s hull. The seconds hands feature a red tip, while the chronograph model also has red stripes around the counters, a further reminder of the AC75’s hull. The words “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” are positioned on the 45° flange between 10 and 2 o’clock.
The case of Pelagos FXD models is made of matte black carbon composite, with dimensions of 42 mm (in model 25707KN) and 43 mm (in model 25807KN). The bidirectional rotating bezel is titanium with a matte black carbon composite disc and 60-minute retrograde graduation, coated with luminescent Swiss Super-LumiNova® Grade X1. A blue fabric ring strap with red touches and a hook-and-loop fastening system completes the distinctive design of these watches.
The strap
The fabric ring strap is a distinctive Tudor icon. It is made by the historic Julien Faure company using nineteenth-century jacquard looms. For the Pelagos FXD models, a highly technical strap was developed, featuring a “Team Blue” jacquard fabric band with red details, a titanium “D” buckle, and a hook-and-loop clasp system.
Despite the high technicality of the materials and structure of the strap, don’t worry, it is also perfect for anyone who wants to spend a day at the beach. It is not reserved for America’s Cup racers!
The calibers
The Pelagos FXD model is powered by the Manufacture caliber MT5602, which displays hours, minutes, and seconds. The movement presents an appearance in keeping with the general aesthetic of Tudor’s Manufacture calibers. The Caliber MT5602 with silicon balance spring is COSC-certified and offers a 70-hour power reserve.
The Pelagos FXD Chrono model is equipped with the Manufacture MT5813 movement, which offers hour, minute and seconds displays, as well as chronograph functions and a date display. This movement, certified “Chronometer” by the COSC, features a matte finish similar to other Tudor Manufacture calibers. The 70-hour power reserve and silicon balance spring ensure high chronometric performance.
Price and availability
The list price is EUR 3,690.00 for the time-only model and EUR 5,130.00 for the chronograph version. This is not a limited edition and will be available at all Tudor retailers and Boutiques.
Our opinion
The two new Tudor Pelagos FXDs for Alinghi are further evidence of the commitment Tudor is investing in water sports, from sailing to surfing. These two new watches are technically and aesthetically successful, maintaining largely traditional lines used by Tudor and skillfully bringing them closer to the identity of the partner.
As mentioned earlier, these are highly technical watches that nevertheless prove to be a very viable solution for anyone who does not want to part with their watch while at the beach or on a boat.
