Founded in 1960 in Japan, the Grand Seiko watch manufacturer has just announced a new model that will join the Elegance collection. This is the new Grand Seiko Skyflake, an elegant timepiece characterized by a compact and minimalist design with a 34mm diameter case.
This new model will complement the popular 41 mm case version presented in 2019. Featuring a dial that recalls the mountains of Shinsh, this new watch represents the perfect expression of Japanese stylistic culture, drawing inspiration from the beauty of the natural environment.
The characteristics of the new Grand Seiko Skyflake
Composed of a stainless steel case, the dimensions of this new model are 34mm in diameter by 10.7mm thick.
Above the case there is a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment; on the back of the watch, on the other hand, there is a screw back that guarantees water resistance up to 3 bar.
As for the particular blue dial, the undisputed protagonist of this new watch, we can observe a delicate pattern that captures the charm of the blue shades of the sky that are reflected in the fresh snow of the Shinshu mountains where Shinshu Watch Studio is located, the place where it is made this dial.
The decoration on the latter has the texture and color of snow which, for several months of the year, is visible to Grand Seiko’s master watchmakers.
Overall, the dial, in line with the Japanese stylistic canons, is essential and shows a beauty that conveys the typical sense of Japanese serenity and tranquility.
You can also see the multi-faceted and diamond-cut hour markers that highlight the dial along with the tempered blue seconds hand.
As for the movement that animates this new Skyflake, we find the quartz caliber 9F61, which ensures a high precision of – / + 10 seconds per year providing the functions of hours, minutes and seconds.
Completing this new watch is the crocodile leather strap with pin buckle.
Price and availability
The new Grand Seiko Skyflake, with reference SBGX353, will enrich the Elegance collection and will be available in Grand Seiko Boutiques and authorized dealers around the world starting from December 2022.
The list price is € 3,900.
