Forget, just for a moment, Audrey Hepburn in front of the Tiffany & Co. windows on Fifth Avenue. Soon, in New York, the breakfast most coveted by watch enthusiasts might have a different address and a five-pointed crown. Rolex has, in fact, filed a trademark application in the United States for a name that’s decidedly curious: Rolex Café.

The news comes as the Geneva-based company is working on its new U.S. headquarters in the heart of Manhattan and brings with it a second, equally interesting clue: another trademark application, this time for the name “The 1908 New York,” related to food service. These two names, filed just a few months apart, raise a rather unusual question: what if Rolex were actually planning to open its own café?

Rolex Café: What We Know About the New Trademark

On September 30, 2026 , Rolex Watch U.S.A., Inc. filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the word mark ROLEX CAFÉ, identified by serial number 50138050.

The most interesting detail concerns the classification by product category. The trademark falls under International Class 43, which covers restaurant and hospitality services, with a description that leaves little room for doubt as to the type of business covered: “Café services.”

Application for registration of the “Rolex Café” trademark filed in the United States on September 30, 2026.

The discovery, reported by Australian watch enthusiast Nick Gould, known on Instagram as @niccoloy, was picked up by Hodinkee Australia, immediately sparking the curiosity of watch enthusiasts. After all, we’re used to associating the crown with the Oyster Perpetual, Submariner, Daytona, and GMT-Master II, and far less so with cappuccinos and espressos.

Of course, filing a trademark application is not the same as announcing a new opening. Large companies frequently register names to safeguard their commercial identity or protect potential future initiatives. Rolex, in particular, has always been extremely careful about managing its name and image.

Yet this time, there’s another factor that makes the idea of a Café particularly intriguing.

Does the new Rolex Building in New York hold any surprises?

To find a possible location for the Rolex Café, simply look at one of Manhattan’s most famous addresses: 665 Fifth Avenue, home to Rolex’s U.S. headquarters, which is currently undergoing a major renovation.

The new Rolex Building, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, will rise 25 stories and house the brand’s U.S. offices along with spaces dedicated to its retail operations. The building is designed to strengthen the brand’s presence in the heart of New York, with a particular focus on the quality of the spaces and sustainability.

But the potential café may be only part of the story.

In fact, on June 25, 2026, Rolex Watch U.S.A. had already filed another trademark application with the USPTO, this time for the trademark THE 1908 NEW YORK, identified by serial number 99905001.

This designation also falls under International Class 43, but the description is even more specific: Restaurant, bar, and catering services. In other words, restaurant, bar, and catering services.

The name, of course, is no coincidence. 1908 is the year Hans Wilsdorf officially registered the Rolex brand, a pivotal date in the history of the Maison, now also celebrated through the Perpetual 1908 collection, introduced in 2023 and dedicated to classic watchmaking.

What makes the situation even more intriguing is another trademark application, also filed on June 25, for the name “THE ROLEX BUILDING,” which also covers services related to restaurant reservations and event planning.

Three names, then, that might suggest a more comprehensive hospitality offering than initially imagined. On one hand, the Rolex Café; on the other, The 1908 New York; and in the background, the new building on Fifth Avenue.

Is the Crown planning to open a café and a restaurant inside its new U.S. headquarters? It’s a fascinating possibility, although no official announcement has yet confirmed the opening of these establishments or their potential connection to the Rolex Building.

From Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Breakfast at Rolex: When Luxury Meets Hospitality

The idea of ordering an espresso at a Rolex-branded venue might seem rather unusual. Yet, when you look at what’s happening in the luxury sector, the prospect becomes decidedly less surprising.

You don’t have to go far on Fifth Avenue to find one of the most famous examples: Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Box Café, located inside the American jewelry brand’s historic flagship store. It’s a place that has transformed the cinematic imagery of Breakfast at Tiffany’s into a real-life experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves, at least for a few hours, in the atmosphere made immortal by Audrey Hepburn.

Tiffany, of course, is in good company. Over time, Ralph Lauren has established a recognizable presence in the restaurant industry through its restaurants and Ralph’s Coffee, while Louis Vuitton has introduced cafés and dining destinations in some of its international boutiques.

The watchmaking industry also offers some interesting examples. In Geneva, Breitling Kitchen welcomes visitors with an offering that ranges from a café to a full-service restaurant, while Restaurant F.P. Journe, located on Rue du Rhône, provides a culinary experience inspired by the world of the independent master watchmaker of the same name.

These are different initiatives, united by a desire to extend the customer experience beyond the moment of purchase. After all, luxury is increasingly linked to hospitality, conviviality, and the opportunity to engage with a brand through everyday experiences.

For Rolex, opening a new location would hold special significance. Over time, the brand has built an international presence that extends far beyond watchmaking, through its support of tennis, sailing, golf, motorsports, culture, and the arts. A café could become yet another meeting place between the public and the world of the Crown.

Anyone who has visited a Rolex boutique is already familiar with the attention paid to hospitality, often accompanied by a cup of coffee. The novelty here would be to transform that little ritual into a destination in its own right, one that’s potentially accessible even to those who simply want to treat themselves to a break in the heart of Manhattan.

An espresso with the Crown? Curiosity is already sky-high

For now, Rolex has not officially announced the opening of any café or restaurant. The trademark applications filed in the United States are concrete evidence, but they do not yet allow us to determine if, when, or where these potential ventures will take shape.

The close proximity of the Rolex Café, The 1908 New York, and The Rolex Building, along with the construction of the new U.S. headquarters, nevertheless offers several clues as to what the Maison’s next move might be.

If this initiative were to come to fruition, it could represent a completely different way of experiencing Rolex. Perhaps sitting at a table on Fifth Avenue, with an espresso in front of you and your watch on your wrist.

And while we wait to find out if Rolex will really serve its first cup of coffee, one question comes to mind: will you have to get on a waiting list to have breakfast at Rolex?
