You can recognize a Labormatic at a glance: the design of the dial, the peripheral hour markers, the large central minute hand, and that unmistakable case with its generous proportions. These are the design elements that have defined the collection since its very first models. This time, however, there’s an important new addition: titanium.

Gagà Laboratorio Labormatic Superleggero

Thus was born the Labormatic Superleggero, model number LMTT-001, a limited edition of 100 pieces that introduces this material to the collection for the first time. The name chosen by Gagà immediately evokes experimental cars, custom-built bodies, and handcrafted sports cars, where reducing weight meant pursuing performance, balance, and character.

Superleggero,” then. A particularly evocative name for car enthusiasts, and even more intriguing when we see it on the dial of a Labormatic. Because the proportions we know are still there, as are its exuberance and that uniquely personal way of displaying the time. It’s the material that has changed, and we are curious to see to what extent the watch itself has changed as well.

The Arrival of Grade 5 Titanium at Labormatic

Those familiar with the Labormatic collection will recognize its 42 mm diameter and 13.3 mm thickness, with the characteristic circular case and four strongly sculpted lugs. The real novelty is the introduction of Grade 5 titanium, used for the first time in the collection. The matte finish particularly enhances the case’s design, highlighting its edges, lugs, and the interplay of volumes, and giving the Superleggero a more assertive character than the Labormatic models that preceded it.

On the wrist, there is a technical strap made of stretchy fabric; its pronounced weave complements the textured feel of the titanium and rounds out the sportier look of this model.

The dial

It’s on the dial that the Superleggero perhaps reveals its most captivating side. Four large sections of laser-engraved sapphire reveal the numerals and details beneath, creating a succession of solid areas, transparencies, and overlays that shift with the light. Simply tilt the watch slightly, and the dial takes on depth, revealing details that remain more subtle when viewed head-on.

Against this backdrop of grays and translucent tones, the bright yellow minute hand moves decisively across the dial and returns to the numerals, while a small red accent appears at the 12 o’clock position. Just a few touches of color, enough to preserve the vibrancy that has always been a hallmark of Gagà’s design language.

At the center is the Maison’s emblem, set within the radial design and surrounded by four sapphire segments. The dial thus seems to be in constant motion: it changes with the light, with the angle of the wrist, and, above all, with the passage of time.

The Joux-Perret G100

Through the sapphire crystal case back, the La Joux-Perret G100 is visible, an automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve. Gagà leaves his signature particularly on the skeletonized rotor, which is mounted on ceramic ball bearings and designed to echo the geometry of the dial.

The wide opening leaves the G100 clearly visible and makes the case back instantly recognizable. Finally, the Superleggero is protected by sapphire crystal on the dial side as well and is water-resistant to 5 ATM, equivalent to 50 meters.

It’s All in the Details

The crown is one of those details that clearly show just how much Gagà still enjoys working on the Labormatic. The separate, independently adjustable cabochon maintains its position, and on the Superleggero, the row of small metal beads creates a beautiful contrast with the titanium case. A detail that’s almost hidden when viewed from the front but much more evident when the watch is viewed from the side.

On the wrist, we find a strap made of elastic technical fabric, chosen in the same dark shade as the case and featuring a rather pronounced weave. Here, too, Gagà remains true to the creative freedom with which he has built Labormatic from the very beginning, combining materials, colors, and design elements that are hard to miss.

And now that we’ve reached this point, let’s admit it: we’re really curious to get our hands on it. Because the photos let us lose ourselves in the dial’s translucent beauty, trace the engravings on the sapphire crystal, observe the rotor through the case back, and even spot that little cabochon on the crown. The one thing missing is precisely what promises to most clearly distinguish this model from the Labormatic watches we know: the feel of titanium on the wrist.

That will be the moment when we truly understand the Superleggero. And knowing the collection, it will probably also be the moment when we start looking at it the way we do with watches that truly intrigue us: first we check the time, then we keep searching for details without worrying about what time it is anymore.

The Gagà Laboratorio Labormatic Superleggero LMTT-001 will be produced in a limited run of 100 units, priced at CHF 4,700 (excluding taxes), and will be available online and at select authorized retailers.
