To tell the story of this new model, we need to go back to the 1980s, when TAG Heuer introduced the 2000 Series, a family of diving watches designed to combine reliability, functionality, and comfort for everyday use.
In 2004, that project evolved into the Aquaracer, which was destined to become one of the Maison’s most recognizable collections embodying its sporting spirit. Since then, each generation has introduced more advanced materials, increasingly sophisticated movements, and a constant refinement of proportions, while preserving the elements that still define its identity today.
These are the line’s famous six design hallmarks: a unidirectional rotating bezel, a screw-down crown, water resistance, luminescent hour markers, sapphire crystal, and a double-security clasp. These features continue to represent the perfect balance between functionality, ergonomics, and distinctive aesthetics, and are reimagined in this very model.
The New Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 500 Date
The 42 mm case is crafted from Grade 2 titanium with a sandblasted finish, a choice that combines high durability with lightness, ensuring comfort even during extended wear. The domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating ensures optimal visibility of the dial, while the titanium case back contributes to the watch’s overall sturdiness.
With a water resistance rating of 500 meters, this model is also designed for saturation diving thanks to the helium escape valve at the 10 o’clock position, crafted from titanium with a black DLC coating. The system allows for the controlled release of helium accumulated inside the case during the decompression phase, thereby preserving the case’s integrity.
The technical features are rounded out by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a glossy black ceramic insert and a graduated scale, featuring blue or orange accents (depending on the configuration) for the first fifteen minutes, which allow for even quicker reading of dive times.
A dial designed to be easy to read at all times
On a professional diver’s watch, readability is one of the most important features. The black lacquered dial combines applied hour markers and hands treated with white Super-LumiNova® with a minute track available in two color options, blue or orange, maintaining a sharp contrast that makes it easy to read the time even in low-light conditions.
The date window at 6 o’clock, featuring a magnifying lens, blends harmoniously into the dial’s design. The same shade chosen for the minute track is repeated on the seconds hand and in the first fifteen minutes of the unidirectional bezel, creating a chromatic continuity that characterizes each of the two models without compromising their technical identity.
The Mechanical Heart: The COSC-Certified TH30-00 Caliber
Powering the watch is the TH30-00 automatic movement, certified as a COSC chronometer. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 70 hours, combining chronometric precision with a power reserve suitable even for the most extended periods of use.
The certification issued by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres attests to compliance with rigorous international standards of precision, confirming the movement’s performance.
A bracelet that lives up to its performance
Grade 2 titanium is also used for the three-link bracelet, which features the same finish as the case to ensure aesthetic continuity and keep the watch’s overall weight down.
The fold-over clasp with dual safety buttons features a quick-release extension system that allows you to wear the watch even over a wetsuit without the need for tools, easily adapting to different usage needs.
