The worlds of watchmaking and jewelry, though distinct, are intertwined in creations that combine aesthetic beauty and technical innovation. Some brands have been able to combine these two arts to create masterpieces that transcend their original function, becoming true symbols of luxury and refinement.

The rise of the jeweled watch dates back to the early 20th century, a period when artistic movements such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco profoundly influenced design. From the naturalistic, flowing lines of Art Nouveau to the bold, geometric motifs of Art Deco, these styles gave rise to creations that celebrated the optimism and creativity of an era.

Let us now explore some of these creations that are the result of the craftsmanship of the most important watchmakers.

Cartier jewel watch: the charm of the panther

One of the most famous and established maisons in the jewelry scene is definitely Cartier. In fact, the Parisian brand began as a jewelry store, later expanding and being the first to create a men’s wristwatch as we all know it. Cartier, over the years, has been able to establish itself as one of the best maisons in the world in its field, since the early years of the last century, a period when the brand’s first creations in the form of a jeweled watch saw the light of day.

Thanks to the undisputed savoir-faire that has always distinguished the Parisian house, Cartier has been able to create true works of art marked by unique shapes, hands and precious stones, including the famous jeweled watch “La Panthère de Cartier.”

La Panthère de Cartier

The first model we see today is La Panthère de Cartier, a truly unique and exceptional watch that encapsulates all the know-how of the maison. Inspired by the Panther, a symbol that has characterized Cartier since the early years of the last century, this jewel represents a true object of French luxury.

The quality of construction and fine materials, blends perfectly with an eye-catching, self-centered design that is sure not to go unnoticed. The entire item is made of rhodium-plated white gold, with a case surrounded by 128 baguette-cut diamonds. The two panther heads, which allow the bracelet to anchor to the case, are also made of rhodium-plated white gold and embellished with no less than 572 brilliant-cut diamonds.

In this watch we see the craftsmanship of Cartier’s artisans in making an object with an exceptional combination of flair and quality that have always distinguished the maison in its achievements. This is not the end of the story, because emeralds in the eyes of the panthers have been inserted poirre shape, and with a black lacquer the black spots typical of the feline have been made.

Animating this small watch, with a diameter of 22.2 mm, we find an in-house quartz movement.

Another jewel watch worth mentioning, given its recent birth and complexity of construction, is the Reflection de Cartier model. Presented this year in three gold variants, this timepiece was designed to break away from previous models. Its bold and versatile design makes it suitable for any occasion, without neglecting Cartier’s typical savoir-faire. The distinguishing feature of this watch lies in the reflection of the dial through a small mirror placed in front of it, giving the impression that time runs in reverse. The version we see today stands out in elegance and refinement.

The watch is a riot of precious stones, creating a colorful and playful look. The entire object is made of rhodium-plated white gold surrounded by an unprecedented array of stones. The opulence of this timepiece is unprecedented, in total we find 5 different minerals that help embellish each component. The exterior of the strap is adorned with 258 brilliant-cut diamonds in addition to stones such as opal, tiger’s eye, amethysts and spessartite garnets. A mix that gives the watch a bold and vigorous look that is sure to catch the eye.

The dial, under which we find a manufacture quartz movement, is filled with 106 brilliant-cut diamonds. There is also another version of this model, in which instead of the aforementioned stones, we find chrysopace, obsidian, emeralds, and Paraiba tourmalines.

With these watches Cartier further solidifies its role as a luxury maison, offering objects that go beyond the sole function of a watch or piece of jewelry, but rather convey a continuing ability of the brand to put itself on the line.

Bulgari jewel watch: jewelry in the Italian style

The Roman maison, too, since the beginning of the last century has been second to none in experimenting and making the ultimate jeweled watch. Mention must go to the famous Serpenti Misteriosi, also made famous for being worn by Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra.

Today we will talk about a revisited Bulgari Serpenti compared to the classic one, which hides a little secret, namely the smallest mechanical manufacture movement made by the maison: I am talking about the Serpenti Misteriosi Secret, the jewel watch par excellence of the Roman house.

This small timepiece is hidden inside the snake’s mouth, hence the name Secret, which can be opened or closed. The case is made of 18-karat white gold, and both the bezel and the dial are covered entirely with diamonds where the green hands perfectly match the color of the reptile’s eyes and the exterior trim.

The beautiful dial is made of blue Murano glass, in which the sun and moon, on a rotating 24-hour disk, rotate without ever touching, recreating the immensity of space. Half of the dial is inlaid with round diamonds and white gold forming the moon and starry sky, while the sun is made of the finest yellow sapphires. On the other half, however, we find a white gold and mother-of-pearl cap with a guilloché finish.

Housed inside the watch is a self-winding Valfleurier movement equipped with a 24-hour module and 36-hour power reserve.
