Earlier this morning, Patek Philippe announced the release of the new, highly anticipated 5711 Nautilus. And it’s green. Cast your minds back to January, when Patek Philippe stated that they would stop manufacturing the widely beloved 5711/1A (blue dial), to make way for a final version to celebrate the discontinuation of this reference. Well, this is it:

The final version of the 5711

The Olive Green Dial

Although Patek isn’t the first manufacturer to introduce green dials to their watches (quite the contrary!), to their credit, their green is quite “unique”. It’s a very subtle shade of olive green, which, as our Social Media Manager Claudio Freccia very cleverly pointed out, recall the aged dials of some of the rarest ref. 3700s, which went from blue to slightly green in appearance.

However, we’ve actually already seen this shade of green, earlier this year in fact. This colour seems to be identical to that used for the ladies’ Patek Philippe Twenty~4 (ref. 7300/1200A).

Both green-dial 5711s are made from steel

Steel was a very hot topic recently, because there was extensive debate as to how it would impact Patek Philippe’s image if they ended the production of a historic reference with non-precious metals. Despite this, both versions of this final series are made from steel.

The exact reference numbers are the following:
5711/1A-014 – the regular version – and 5711/1300A-001, which is a baguette-cut diamonded version. In both cases, the dimensions are unchanged: 40mm diameter and 8.3mm thick.

There isn’t really all too much to say in regards to the first reference. Apart from the dial colour, one other change is the addition of a white border around the date window. This feature was normally reserved for the 5711 Nautilus models in platinum or gold. Finally, it would appear that, for both references, the font of the date wheel has become more bold.

A side-by-side comparison between the date windows of the green and blue 5711s

The 5711 with baguette-cut diamonds, on the other hand, is really and truly attractive. In recent years, through Instagram and various retailers, we have seen the rise in popularity for watches which feature colourful baguette-cut stones: from sapphires and rubies, to emeralds and diamonds, these watches have become high in demand.

Although it pretty much went under the radar, Patek Philippe made the decision to stop producing precious stone variants of the 5711, unless the stones were white Top Wesselton diamonds, like this one.

The clasp of the bracelet is identical to the previous model: no upgrade has been made to these steel models.

Production Numbers and Retail Price

Neither one of these green dial final series 5711 will be a limited edition. However, there is a catch: they will only be in production for one year (2021).

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t even bother putting yourself on the waiting list, since it’s been announced that they will be offered only to Patek’s most loyal customers. So, although it might seem redundant, we’ll tell you the prices in any case: the 5711/1A-014 retails for €30,860, meanwhile the 5711/1300A-001 will cost €83,680 (both inclusive of tax).
