Dear IWS friends, as with every occasion to discover rare and unusual watches, we were on the starting blocks for the Grammy Awards to show you some of the most unique watches we found.
Brace yourselves because some of you purists might turn up your noses. As you’ll see, among the watches at the 2024 Grammy Awards, precious stones will reign supreme. Without giving anything away, let’s explore the watches worn by some of the most famous figures in show business during the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Taylor Swift and the Concord Watch by Lorraine Schwartz
The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift won the “Best Album of the Year” award for the fourth time in her career, thus breaking the previous record held by artists who, like her, had stopped at three. For the occasion, Taylor Swift wore a very special custom Concord watch created by Lorraine Schwartz to be worn not on the wrist, but around the neck.
Sorry for the poor resolution of the image, but given the total absence of photos of this timepiece, we had to extract it directly from the original image. Well, this will certainly be the most unexpected watch we’ll see on the list, but trust us, the next ones might not be any less surprising.
Jay-Z with the Patek Philippe 5961R
Jay-Z, a rap music icon and extremely successful entrepreneur, opted for an elegant Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chrono 5961R with a Tiffany dial. It’s a Patek Philippe chronograph and calendar in rose gold with a baguette diamond-set bezel, an incredibly special watch that doesn’t surprise us given the rapper’s incredible collection over the years.
Maluma with a Jacob & Co. Astronomia
The internationally famous Colombian singer Maluma flaunted a Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Baguette Rose Gold Ruby, ref. AT800.40.BD.BR.A, a very bold and eye-catching watch. I’m not a fan of such large cases and flashy precious stone sets, but the engineering work behind this watch has always fascinated me.
Travis Scott and his Audemars Piguet x Travis Scott
Travis Scott, known for his music and unique style, wore a unique version of the Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar “Cactus Jack”. At the end of 2023, Audemars Piguet and the American rapper launched the result of an absurd collaboration, a “Cactus Jack” version of AP’s incredible Skeletonized Perpetual Calendar in ceramic. Here, however, Travis Scott is not wearing one of those 200 limited edition models, but a unique piece distinguished by a rose gold bezel and a rainbow set on the bezel.
Jon Batiste with a Vacheron Constantin Overseas
Jon Batiste, a versatile musician and Grammy winner, chose a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon High Jewelry, Ref. 6007V/210G-B955. This Vacheron tourbillon watch is enriched with a bezel entirely covered in baguette-cut diamonds.
Victoria Monét with a magnificent Bulgari Serpenti
As you know, 2023 was the year of the Serpenti for Bulgari, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about this iconic collection in 2024. Victoria Monét, a talented singer-songwriter, for the Grammy Awards wore an incredible Bulgari Serpenti high jewelry watch, an incredibly complex timepiece-jewel to create and rich in history.
Luke Combs with his A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1
Representing Germany at the Grammys, country singer Luke Combs opted for an A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon phase with diamonds. An extremely elegant and classic watch, made more modern by the use of brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel.
Busta Rhymes and a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
The iconic rapper Busta Rhymes chose an Audemars Piguet Royal Offshore in rose gold completed with the classic alligator strap, ref. 26470OR.00.A002CR.01.
Conclusioni
As we said at the beginning, some of the purists among you readers might not have made it to the end of the article. During these Grammys, precious stones walked in unison with timepieces almost as if it were unthinkable to separate them.
Personally, I find the use of diamonds incredibly fascinating in some of these models, like Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe and the Bulgari Serpenti, and extremely forced in others. But as we always like to say, de gustibus! One thing is certain, the trend of precious stones in high-end watchmaking does not seem to have stopped and remains a reality to be considered for the joy of those who love precious stones and for the disappointment of the purists in the field.
