The historic Italian Maison, born in Florence in 1860 as a laboratory, shop and school of watchmaking, has always distinguished itself within the watchmaking world for its unique character in terms of military watches.
In fact, Panerai has been the supplier of precision instruments for the Italian Navy for years, especially for the needs of special underwater corps.
In the wake of its military imprint, with watches ready to be worn in the most difficult military missions, Panerai, for some years now, has introduced a special program reserved for a few customers, who can take the field with the Italian armed forces to experience a singular and unforgettable experience.
This is the Panerai Experience Special Forces program reserved for customers purchasing watches intended for this type of experience. This year’s edition will see the participation, from today until September 22, of 50 selected VIP clients from all over the world together with the troops of the Italian special forces from Brindisi.
On the occasion of this Experience, the brand presented two new models dedicated to the Italian Special Forces: Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition (PAM01238) and the Submersible Forze Speciali (PAM01239), two watches as resistant and strong as the troops that inspired them.
The characteristics of the new Submersible Special Forces
These two new Submersible Special Forces, each with their own aesthetic identity, share fundamental technical specifications.
The DLC-coated titanium cases, 47 mm in diameter, are equipped with a unidirectional rotating titanium and ceramic bezel with a graduated scale.
The latter, in the Submersible Special Forces Experience Edition, features a military green color perfectly matched to the jungle camouflage rubber strap; everything is highlighted by the red details on the dial, bezel and case.
In the Submersible Forze Speciali, on the other hand, the bezel is blue in combination with the black rubber cordeon strap; in this second model everything is highlighted by the green details.
Moving on to the back of the watches, we find a titanium screw back, each engraved with its own personalization.
In the first model we can see the “Panerai Experience” engraving.
In the second model, however, we find a Navy raider depicted, a reminder of the watch’s ability to perform underwater feats.
Also on the case, at 3 o’clock, is the Safety Lock crown protection device in titanium with DLC coating.
Below the sapphire crystal we find the dials made up of solid Super-LumiNova blocks that offer maximum visibility in the dark.

The in-house caliber, P.9100 / R, self-winding and with a 3-day power reserve, animates these two new military watches. Among the functions of this movement there are two very sophisticated complications: the flyback function and the Time to Target countdown. The first complication allows the chronograph to reset and restart with a single press of the button at 8 o’clock; the Time to Target, on the other hand, indicates the time remaining for an established appointment.
As for the operation of this second complication, to activate the countdown you must repeatedly press the button at 4 o’clock to adjust the central hand of the chronograph to the desired interval; by pressing the stop / start button of the chronograph at 10 o’clock the countdown begins, indicating the time remaining until the target is reached and once reached, the time elapsed thereafter.
Prices and availability
Limited to 50 pieces, the Submersible Special Forces Experience Edition, with reference PAM01238, is sold at a price of € 55,000 and is accompanied by an additional strap in black Sportech with a velcro closure.
This model will also allow you to participate in the Panerai Experience Special Forces together with the troops of the Italian special forces in a series of exercises, putting the watches to the test.
The Submersible Forze Speciali, with reference PAM01239, on the other hand, will have a controlled production of 300 units per year starting from 2022; the price for this second model, sold together with an additional strap, made in Sportech with velcro closure, is € 29,500.
