Those of you who have been following us for some time will know that although IWS was born from a passion of two young 18-year-olds, the goal has always been to become a reference point for watch enthusiasts in Italy. A sort of hangout where every watch geek can find everything they need to cultivate their passion.
Initially, for obvious issues, this goal took the form of sharing information and knowledge through our channels. Despite this, we have always been aware that something more was missing in Italy, a digital place in step with the times that would provide a watch collector with the necessary to be able to cultivate and take care of his or her passion, not only in terms of knowledge, but also in a purely practical sense, through quality, carefully selected and Made in Italy products.
For this reason, at the request of many friends, enthusiasts and collectors, we have carefully constructed a selection of items that are fundamental and dear to every watch enthusiast. Among all the products, straps certainly cannot be missing: wonderful accessories that inevitably accompany our watch and enhance its aesthetics, if chosen properly.
Precisely for this reason, without further ado, here is a comprehensive guide to understanding our selection of straps.
Watch Straps by Italian Watch Spotter
All our straps are handmade in Italy by a trusted supplier who sources leather from the world’s leading and most renowned tanneries in compliance with all ethical standards.
Each of our IWS straps is produced in four sizes: 22 x 18 mm, 20 x 18 mm, 20 x 16 mm and 18 x 16 mm, and is equipped with a Quick-switch system for easy assembly and disassembly. In addition, the straps all feature a rectangular buckle hand-polished in Italy. As for length, we use the standard 110 mm x 75 mm size, which fits well on both smaller wrists (like mine!) and more demanding ones.
The lining is burgundy-colored calfskin leather engraved with the Italian Watch Spotter logo and the words “Made in Italy,” of which we are especially proud and jealous.
Cool Names Only
Although watchmaking is a rather serious and traditional field, we love to try new things and we love to get emotional. For this very reason, each watch strap has special, unique names that come from memories, emotions, and stories particular to each of our team members. We hope that these names will convey memories and emotions to you a bit like watches do with their incredible stories.
Many of the names you will find are kept in Italian just because we are jealous about our roots and we feel like the italian sound of those names is unparalleled.
Materials
Our straps are handmade from three different types of leather, sourced from the world’s best tanneries in compliance with all procurement regulations.
Calfskin leather straps
The first leather is calfskin, a durable leather with strong, uniform colors that can be given various treatments, from saffiano to hammered. Within our selection you will find six calfskin straps in colors ranging from blue, white, burgundy, and brown. These are versatile, very durable straps that any collector can use in more sporty and informal situations.
Kudu leather straps
Kudu leather is very different from calf leather. It is extremely soft to the touch and slightly velvety, similar to suede but much more valuable. In addition to the incredibly pleasant feel, the beauty of this leather lies in the wealth of veins and markings that give each of the straps a completely unique aesthetic. Needless to say, given the uniqueness of the veining, each strap will necessarily be unique and different from the others
Shell Cordovan leather
Then we have Shell Cordovan, one of the finest leathers in existence, produced by the famous Horween Leather Co. This collection is designed for the discerning enthusiast and for special and particularly elegant occasions. To the touch it is stiffer than kudu, similar to calfskin, although the surface, however, feels much smoother, silkier. To the eye, on the other hand, cordovan has a unique depth due to lighter reflections on an always dark base and a more pronounced brightness.
Water buffalo leather strap
For the bravest collectors, we also found an incredible, one-of-a-kind leather with deep brown veins that give the watch they are paired with a bold and wild look. We understand that it is not for everyone, but as soon as we saw it in person, we fell in love with it and could not help but include it in our selection.
