Donald Trump, this time, was far from the warm atmosphere of the UFC octagon and the ovations that regularly greet him at college football stadiums. On Sunday, the former president entered a sports arena familiar to him but decidedly less hospitable: the U.S. Open, where he returned after more than a decade to watch the men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, which Alcaraz won.

His presence was felt well before the first exchange. The start time, scheduled for 2 p.m., was delayed by more than half an hour because of the impressive security measures. As spectators took their seats in the imposing Arthur Ashe Stadium, Trump entertained himself in his courtside suite, where the tournament trophy was on display. When he first appeared before a still half-empty arena, he was greeted by a mixture of cheers, whistles and choruses.

During the national anthem, Trump stood, bringing his hand to his forehead in salute, alongside special guests: Rolex CEO Jean-Frédéric Dufour with the brand new Land-Dweller on his wrist, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, former Attorney General Pam Bondi, First Lady Melania Trump, granddaughter Arabella Kushner, and son-in-law Jared Kushner. But when the cameras panned to the president on the big screens, the stadium erupted again into a chorus.

According to rumors, Trump was a guest of Rolex, one of the main sponsors of the New York Slam. A choice that definitely gave pause for thought! is a possible negotiation on duties imposed on Switzerland on the way?

In recent months, in fact, Trump has imposed a 39 percent duty on goods imported from Switzerland. And making the affair even more symbolic is the fact that both finalists, both Sinner and Alcaraz, are brand ambassadors.
