Every year, Royal Ascot offers a unique spectacle. On the one hand, there’s the sporting event—one of the most prestigious and historic horse racing events in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, there’s everything that revolves around it: etiquette, British tailoring, international guests, and for those of us who can’t help but glance at people’s wrists an impressive array of interesting watches.

Yet, among the many timepieces spotted during this edition, there is one that immediately caught our attention. The star of the show is Henry Cavill, who attended the event as a Longines Ambassador. So far, nothing surprising. Much more unexpected, however, was his choice of watch. On his wrist, we didn’t find a new model from the catalog, nor one of the models that usually dominate conversations among collectors and enthusiasts.
Cavill chose something decidedly more unique: an extremely rare 1926 Longines Monopusher Chronograph Caliber 13.33, straight from the Longines Museum.
A century-old chronograph in the perfect setting
Anyone who follows the world of watchmaking knows full well that spotting celebrities has almost become an Olympic sport. Every public appearance sparks analysis, comparisons, and discussions. Very often, however, the script is fairly predictable: grand complications, hard-to-find pieces, or the latest models just unveiled at international watch fairs.
Here, however, you’re in for a surprise! At Royal Ascot, an event that has been a symbol of British elegance for over three centuries and continues to attract members of the royal family, business leaders, actors, and celebrities from around the world, Henry Cavill showed up wearing a watch created exactly one hundred years before the edition we’re experiencing today.

A choice that seems almost perfectly in tune with the atmosphere of the event. Because Royal Ascot is one of those very rare places where time seems to slow down. Traditions are proudly upheld, the dress code remains one of the strictest in the world, and every detail contributes to creating an aesthetic that would be hard to pull off anywhere else.
The 1926 Longines that caught the attention of watch enthusiasts
Looking at the images, it’s impossible not to notice the watch’s proportions. The compact case, the minimalist dial, and the single pushbutton integrated into the crown immediately evoke a bygone era of watchmaking.

We’re talking about a Longines Monopusher Chronograph equipped with the famous Caliber 13.33, one of the movements that helped shape the history of wrist chronographs. The watch worn by Cavill dates back to 1926 and comes directly from the historic collection housed by the brand in Saint-Imier.

This means that we’re not just looking at a beautiful vintage watch; we’re looking at an authentic museum piece that, for one day, has emerged from the Longines archives to once again fulfill the purpose for which it was created a hundred years ago: to be worn!
The most interesting watch sighting at Royal Ascot 2026?
Some watches attract attention because of their fame. Others because they’re practically impossible to get. Then there are cases like this one, where what really stands out is the story behind the watch.
A century-long history that, for one afternoon at Royal Ascot, came to life once again on Henry Cavill’s wrist.
And honestly? Of all the watches we expected to see at the event, a 1926 Longines Monopusher Chronograph Caliber 13.33 was probably the last one on our list. That’s exactly why it was impossible to ignore and that’s probably what makes this sighting one of the most successful and surprising of the year.
