Since 1929, on the shores of Lake Como, one of the world’s most important automotive events has taken place every year.
It is the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an exclusive gathering of rare and historic cars that this year will be held May 19-21.
Also for this edition of the prestigious event, A. Lange & Söhne will partner with the gathering and offer a Chronograph 1815 to the winner of the “Best of Show” award.
Il Concorso d’Eleganza
This international automobile competition, held annually in Cernobbio, Italy, is the quintessential meeting point for enthusiasts from the world of four wheels. Unlike the traditional gatherings of the motor sport world, the Concorso d’Eleganza brings together some of the rarest cars in the world that would be virtually impossible to see in other settings.
The participating vehicles, selected by highly refined and rigorous criteria, will compete within eight different classes and for three days will vie for the attention of the jury and the public. The 2023 edition, which will also take place on the shores of Lake Como, will be held in collaboration with BMW Group Classic and Grand Hotel Villa d’Este.
Serving as a backdrop to the elegant lines of the different competing cars will also be Lange & Söhne, which will present its watch collection. In addition, a one-of-a-kind Lange & Söhne Chronograph 1815 will be up for grabs for the owner of the winning car in the BMW Group “Best of Show” category.
The Lange & Söhne Cronograph 1815 Concorso D’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023
This watch represents what I would call the “perfect prize” for the lucky winner to win in the “Best of Show” class.
In fact, the Chronograph 1815 encompasses within it everything that we can also find in the cars that will take part in the prestigious event: the sportiness given by the chronograph – the complication par excellence conceived precisely for motor racing – and on the other hand, extremely elegant lines that can be seen on the 39 mm diameter white gold case.
This is paired with a stunning rose gold dial that creates a perfect contrast with the brown 30-minute chronograph counter, at 3 o’clock, and the brown seconds counter positioned at 9 o’clock. The chronograph, equipped with a flyback function, is operated by pushers on the case at 2 and 4 o’clock.
Bringing this watch to life we find the IWC-manufactured L951.5 caliber enclosed in a case thickness of 11 mm. This hand-wound movement features a column wheel and the refined snail that enables the minute counter to precisely perform its flyback function.
On the back of the watch, however, we can see the hand-engraved competition crest along with the year of the first Concours d’Elegance and 2023. Completing the watch, which will be presented to the winner by Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid, we find a brown leather strap matching the chronograph counters. We just have to wait for you numerous during this prestigious event where we could talk together about watches and motors in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
