Dear friends of IWS, we had glimpsed it in some leaks circulated on the net on the wrist of a U-2 “Dragon-Lady” spy plane pilot. In fact, Omega a few months ago, was leaking photographs of a new Speedmaster on which we could peer at a mysterious yellow inscription (Flight Qualified) that immediately inflamed our spirits, making our mouths water.

Today, with the launch of the new Speedmaster Pilot, Omega is celebrating its connection to the world of aviation by creating a chronograph that blends classic design and contemporary technology, combining tradition and modernity in a truly unique timepiece. Now, let’s “fly” right away to discover this new timepiece from the Biel-based maison!

The design of the new Omega Speedmaster Pilot

The new 40.85 mm case diameter Speedmaster Pilot is a tribute to Omega’s historic chronograph tradition, echoing the iconic features of the first Speedmaster from 1957 (ref. 2915).

The symmetrical, stainless steel case features a matte finish designed to avoid reflections and ensure maximum readability even in the harshest conditions. This seemingly simple detail is critical for a watch designed for cockpit use, where every split second counts and where clarity is essential.

The distinctive bezel of the new Speedmaster Pilot, with its classic matte aluminum ring, recalls the past with historical details such as the famous Dot Over Ninety” (the dot above right 90) and the “Diagonal to Seventy” (the dot below right 70) found on the tachymeter scale, from the earliest Speedmaster references, produced until the 1970s. Elements that are not just nostalgic, but true symbols of a design that marked watchmaking history.

The dial of the new omega speedmaster pilot

The Speedmaster Pilot’s matte black dial is designed with a grained texture that enhances its technical and sporty character. Applied indexes of white Super-LumiNova ensure optimal readability even in night flights or low-light conditions-in short, technique and usability above all else. The effect is further enhanced by the central orange-tipped chronograph hand, a bold detail that adds a dynamic splash of color and is reminiscent of an aircraft silhouette floating on the dial.

At 3 o’clock, we find an innovative combined 60-minute and 12-hour counter. Its orange triangular hand and transferred white numerals evoke instruments found in aircraft cockpits, particularly the famous“burn rate indicator,” used to monitor fuel consumption.

At 9 o’clock, however, is the small seconds counter, featuring a matte yellow hand and a blue graphic detail that recalls the artificial horizon of cockpits. These elements transform the dial into a true instrument on board, offering intuitive and immediate visibility of the chronograph’s functions, while also adding, a dash of curiosity to the observer of this wrist instrument.

The back of the new omega speedmaster pilot

The Swiss watchmaker offers the new Speedmaster Pilot with two strap options, both designed to accompany every adventure. The first is a stainless steel bracelet, equipped with Omega’s patented comfort adjustment system, ideal for a perfect fit and uncompromising daily wear.

The second, is an included gray NATO strap made with Kevlar fiber-reinforced threads, a choice that adds a sporty and adventurous touch, perfect for flights and outdoor missions. Both straps come in a special travel case, which completes the exclusive experience offered by this watch.

The heart of the new Omega Speedmaster Pilot

Behind the classic lines and functional design lies a technological heart of excellence. The new Speedmaster Pilot is powered by the Omega caliber 9900 Co-Axial Master Chronometer, certified by METAS (Master Chronometer) to ensure the highest standards of precision, magnetic resistance and reliability. This state-of-the-art automatic movement has a 60-hour power reserve and represents the pinnacle of the company’s engineering research.
