Today, live from Geneva, we tell you about the latest masterpiece in the collection: the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Verzasca, a watch with a singular dial that is an exclusive variant of the model.
The New Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Verzasca
Introduced in 2022, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante introduced a revolutionary GMT complication. Unlike traditional GMTs, which often feature crowded dials and complex mechanisms, this model is distinguished by intuitive readability and a minimalist design. The 40mm stainless steel case, embellished with a 950 platinum knurled bezel, expresses timeless sophistication. The integrated steel bracelet, alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, ensures exceptional comfort.
As quoted by the CEO of the Maison: “…We wanted to create a complication that vanishes when it is no longer needed, a luxury of purity and discretion that is shown only to those who need it. This is how we define true luxury : an invisible refinement, serving the essential.”
In fact, thanks to a system of overlapping hands, local time and home time are shown at the same time, but in case you want to use the GMT function, the white gold hour hand, for reading a time different from where you are, can advance in one-hour increments via a pusher at 8 o’clock, while the rose gold hour hand remains fixed, marking the reference time.
With a simple gesture on the pusher at 3 o’clock, the white gold hand returns to overlap the rose gold hand, eliminating the second time zone indication when not needed. This solution not only preserves legibility, but embodies the idea of discreet and refined luxury.
The dial of the new Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Verzasca: a tribute to nature
One of the most fascinating elements of Parmigiani’s new Tonda is undoubtedly the Verde Verzasca dial. Inspired by the crystal-clear waters of the Verzasca Valley in Switzerland, this deep, elegant color conveys a sense of calm and connection with nature. Its distinctive“Grain d’Orge” guilloché finish adds a refined texture, capturing light in a sophisticated way and offering a mesmerizing visual experience, where skeletonized delta-shaped hands in white and rose gold add a touch of elegance.
Parmigiani Fleurier has always attached great importance to the choice of colors, drawing inspiration from the palette of Le Corbusier, a renowned Swiss architect, to create unique and distinctive shades.
The PF051 Movement of the New Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Verzasca
At the heart of the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Verzasca beats the manufacture caliber PF051, a self-winding movement that embodies the philosophy of haute horlogerie. Comprising 215 elements, with a power reserve of 48 hours and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), it guarantees impeccable precision.
A distinctive feature is the use of a 22-carat rose gold micro-rotor, which reduces the thickness of the movement and allows it to maintain a slim and elegant profile. The finishes, such as the“Grain d’Orge” motif on the microrotor and the Côtes de Genève decorations on the bridges, demonstrate the craftsmanship of the house.
Compared to traditional GMT movements, the PF051 stands out for its ingenuity: the split-seconds function allows the local time hand to be hidden when not needed, preserving the watch’s essential aesthetics while maintaining a minimalist and elegant design.
Price and conclusions
This new Parmigiani sends a clear message: in a world that is increasingly connected, increasingly fast-paced, it invites us to pause for a moment, where it is up to us to decide when to operate our time clock by dwelling on the beauty of simplicity. The list price of this watch is 28,700 CHF, roughly €30,000.
