It’s that time of the year. Among new retail prices and various novelties, it is now time, as every year, for the list for Patek Philippe discontinued models in 2023.

After having told you about the 4% increase that took place at the beginning of the month and the closures of several authorized dealers (full article here), the time has come to find out who will abandon the brand’s catalogues. This year will mainly be the turn of the grand complications.

The list of Patek Philippe discontinued models in 2023

Calatrava

For Patek’s most elegant collection we will have to say goodbye to two brilliant but not particularly popular references, an Haute Joaillerie model and a model with a diamond bezel, respectively Ref. 4978/400G-001 and Ref. 7200/200R-001.

Complications

In the case of complications, 4 models leave us among which: the flyback chronograph with annual calendar Ref. 5905R-001, the two 37.5mm Pilots in both white and pink gold, Ref. 7234G-001 and Ref. 7234R-001 . Finally, the chronograph with pulsometric scale and non-slip buttons with Ref. 7150/250R-001 also greets us.

Grand Complications

Among the Patek Philippe discontinued models for 2023 there are 8 grand complications: the two white gold minute repeater Ref. 5078G-001 / Ref. 5078G-010, and the larger version Ref. 5178G-001.

The perpetual calendar with split-seconds chronograph Ref. 5204R-011 had a very short life despite its beauty. The Ref. 5271P-001 with baguette bezel, the very complicated Ref. 5316P-001, the incredible Ref. 5531-012 world time with minute repeater will then be discontinued.

Last among the grand complications discontinued in 2023 is His Majesty Ref. 6300G-010

Nautilus

To be discontinued in the Nautilus collection we have only the female models, the Ref. 7010R-011 and 7010R-012 with leather strap and the Ref.7010/1R-011 and Ref.7010/1R-012 with metal bracelet. The 5712/1A will not be discontinued as many rumors announced.

Aquanaut

A ladies model will also be removed for the Aquanaut collection: the Ref. 5268/200R-001. A more than sensible choice, despite the very short life of 1 year of this model. The similarities with the Ref. 5269/200R-001 were too many, in fact the two watches differ in the Travel Time complication (the one that remained in the catalogue), visible from the additional hand and from the day/night indicator at 6 o’clock.

Twenty~Four

Only one model also for the iconic Twenty~Four collection, which will do without the last square case version left in a precious metal, with Ref. 4910/1201R-001. A choice that could give more space to the few remaining steel models.

Conclusioni

Excluding the grand complications, the other discontinued models are not in our opinion a great loss, but more of a step forward for new models arriving at Watches & Wonders 2023. For the most part, the Patek Philippe discontinued models in 2023 are creations dedicated to the female audience, which could imply a more captivating reinterpretation on the way. For PP, women have always played a fundamental role, from the first wristwatches to the care of dedicated complications and grand complications.

At the same time, the difference between men’s and women’s watches is gradually fading away, therefore the stereotype that women’s watches should be quartz, without complications and only with diamonds, is now something outdated (obviously with several exceptions, because we don’t like extremism).

As for the big complications, we expect big news. There are no less than 8 models to greet us, including several minute repeaters such as the 5178 and 5531.
