Founded in Geneva in 1976, Raymond Weil is today one of the few Swiss maisons that is still family-owned. Its independence has allowed the brand to maintain a consistent line, far from the logic of large groups and faithful to an idea of watchmaking based on quality, balance and accessibility.
In recent years, the house has consolidated its position in the middle range, offering timepieces with understated style and reliable Swiss movements. With the new Toccata Heritage, presented in 2024, Raymond Weil renews its most classic collection, choosing a precise direction: to return to purity of form and restrained proportions.
The hallmark of the Toccata Heritage is the 33 × 38 mm oval case, just 6.95 mm thick. It is an uncommon choice today, but one that has its roots in the 1970s, a period of great stylistic experimentation for the watchmaking world.

Raymond Weil takes up that tradition by adapting it to a contemporary taste: fully polished surface, short lugs connected to the case for a perfect fit. The whole is subtle, harmonious and very discreet, all qualities that return the “dress watch” to its original function: to be elegant without attracting excessive attention.
Three faces, one philosophy
The collection debuts in three variants that share an oval shape but differ in dial finish and hue, all paired with alligator-print calfskin straps with a pin buckle.
- Old Silver Dial – Ref. 2280-STC-64001
It features a silver dial with a soleil finish, applied hour markers and polished dauphine hands. It is the most traditional version, designed for those seeking an elegant watch in the most basic sense.
- Copper Dial – Ref. 2280-PC5-80001
Featuring a steel case with a rose gold PVD coating and a copper dial with a soleil effect. Light variations restore warm, metallic reflections without ever being excessive.
- Blue Dial – Ref. 2280-STC-50001
Last but not least with a polished steel case and deep blue dial. It is the most up-to-date, versatile and suitable for refined daily use.

Movement and construction
The steel case (or rose gold PVD steel for the Copper version) provides water resistance to 30 m. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a transparent case back allow visitors to appreciate the mechanical heart of the timepiece: the RW4100 caliber, with Sellita SW210-1 base.

It is a hand-wound movement with 28,800 vibrations per hour and 45 hours of power reserve. It is a choice that favors subtlety and direct contact with the mechanics, two elements cherished by enthusiasts. The finishes, such as blued screws and decorated bridges, confirm Raymond Weil’s attention to construction, consistent with the price range.
A balanced proposal
With a price tag of around 1,500 euros, the Toccata Heritage fits into an increasingly attractive category: that of elegant mid-range mechanical watches. It offers materials, solid construction and refined aesthetics without resorting to ostentation.
The choice of moderate size and essential dial follows a clear market trend: a return to measured elegance. Raymond Weil interprets this need consistently, offering a watch that combines proportion, simplicity and mechanical authenticity.
The echo of the past
The oval shape of the Toccata Heritage collection is not simply an exercise in style, but a direct reference to a long tradition. Since the 1950s and 1960s, many Swiss maisons had experimented with alternative geometries to the round case, seeking more fluid and refined proportions. The oval, in particular, represented a meeting point between rigor and softness, between technical precision and organic elegance of design.
Notable examples include the 1968 Patek Philippe Ellipse, with its famous “divine proportion,” the Cartier Baignoire, or the Universal Genève Shadow. Each of these timepieces interpreted the oval shape in a different language, but with the same intent: to stand out from the circular convention and propose a new idea of elegance.

Raymond Weil taps into this heritage with a contemporary approach. Toccata Heritage does not replicate models of the past, but takes up their design spirit: balance of proportions, visual clarity, and a search for harmony between case, dial, and strap.
The result is a watch that celebrates history without copying it, offering the public a modern and cultured reinterpretation of a form that, more than any other, embodies the idea of timeless elegance.
Conclusion
The Toccata Heritage collection exemplarily summarizes Raymond Weil’s philosophy: to offer well-built, stylistically consistent watches at a price that is realistic today.

The oval case, manual caliber, and clean dial are conscious design choices that bring watchmaking back to its core values: readability, proportion, and tangible quality.
In today’s complex market, Toccata Heritage represents a balanced way forward: elegant, proportionate and authentic, looking yes to the past, but to find the measure of the present.
