If you are a fan of the Seamaster Aqua Terra, you are in for an exciting treat! This week, Omega introduced a fresh rendition of its sporty-chic dive watch, inspired by Olympic gold medalist and Omega brand ambassador, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis.
Duplantis, a Swedish pole vaulter and perpetual record-breaker, is renowned for setting a new world record in nearly every competition. Most recently, on April 20th, Duplantis broke the World Record for the 8th time in his illustrious career. To celebrate this remarkable athlete, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has released a special edition of the Aqua Terra – and we deem it a solid contender for this year’s top summer watch releases.
First introduced to the Seamaster line in 2002, the Aqua Terra brought a touch of elegance to the otherwise sporty dive watch category, while still remaining practical with its 150 meter water resistance. This luxury sports watch has been the perfectly versatile offering from the brand for over two decades, suitable for both casual and formal occasions, whether you’re on a boat or in a boardroom.
The new exclusive Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M showcases several significant visual elements that pay homage to Armand Duplantis. This rendition retains all of the signature elements of the Aqua Terra line, but highlights a more sporty flair with its integrated rubber strap, effectively capturing the spirit of the young athlete it honors. The blue rubber strap is complemented by crisp yellow stitching, specifically chosen to mirror the Swedish flag, and boasts a stylish pattern and a fold-over clasp buckle.
The blue dial features horizontal stripes and a traditional opaline finish with a teak pattern, as well as a date window at 6. The Seamaster line, the seconds hand, and the quarter hour markers in yellow call attention to the national colors of the Swedish flag. Moreover, the varnished central seconds hand is crafted with a pole vault inspired shape and the rhodium-plated indices are filled with white Super-LumiNova on top to symbolize the grip of the pole.
Having a case size of 41 mm, this new iteration of the iconic Seamaster Aqua Terra also features polished central links that beautifully complement the polished and brushed surfaces of the case. And with a lug-to-lug of 47,9 mm, the watch has quite a sleek profile, ensuring a seamless and comfortable fit on the wrist.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this watch’s technical features reflect the precision and performance synonymous with the Swedish athlete and the Swiss watchmaker. The sapphire crystal case back allows the wearer to appreciate the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8900 that beats inside the watch. The automatic movement holds a power reserve of 60 hours, and features a time zone function. Approved by METAS, this movement meets the industry’s highest standards of precision, performance, and resistance to magnetic fields.
As we discuss athletes and timepieces, we have to mention Omega’s legacy in sports. The brand has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932 and has recorded the Paralympic Games since 1992. With the Paris Olympics 2024 just over a month away, this year holds special significance for the Swiss watchmaker. This new sports-inspired release reflects that, celebrating Omega’s long-standing association with the world’s leading athletes and sporting events.
A truly stunning release, this Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M ticks a lot of our boxes for a standout sports watch, and dare we say, an ideal summer watch? Its bold color scheme of navy blue and bright yellow, reminiscent of the Swedish flag, goes hand in hand with a unique and appealing dive watch. Additionally, with 150 meters of water resistance and a durable rubber strap, this timepiece is built for summer adventures or relaxing by the pool. Considering its aesthetic appeal and technical aspects, we predict this watch will be a top choice for this summer.
