It is known that watch dealers use terms and words that can be strange and incomprehensible to the less accustomed. Among all other similar words that we have covered in this article here, today we will talk about a wording among the more enigmatic but at the same time extremely simple to answer the question: what does SEL mean?
An acronym for Solid End Links
SEL stands for “ Solid End Links ”. It means that the bracelet of the watch in question has undergone a change, in particular, that the terminal link (usually hollow and folded) has been replaced with a solid link. It is a terminology used above all for Rolex and the different variations of bracelet adopted over time.
Why do you use a Solid End Link?
As we know, watchmaking among the many passions that exist, is one of those that gives greater importance to details. A smudge on a logo, an imperceptible color variation of the counters, a thicker than usual writing, are all essential elements that can exponentially change the value of a timepiece.
So it shouldn’t surprise us that even changing a link is worth noting. And I’ll tell you more, a SEL affects, in terms of functionality, much more than the details described above ( not by the value of the watch though ). The solid end link, in fact, is mainly used to give greater strength and solidity to the bracelet.
