Once again this year, the red carpet of the Met Gala featured not only the most incredible looks, but also many amazing watches. It is no coincidence, in fact, that the event is considered the “Super Bowl of fashion.”
The theme of the evening, held as usual at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” a tribute to the great fashion designer and photographer who shaped fashion history. Rami Malek – Cartier Tank Louis in yellow gold
Not surprisingly considered one of the most elegant men in the world, Rami Malek does not deny himself and chooses, to complete a black and white look (homage to Lagerfeld’s colors), a very elegant Cartier Tank Louis in yellow gold and black dial. Incidentally, the actor is the star of the Maison’s new advertising campaign, together with the legendary Catherine Deneuve.
Eddie Redmayne – Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
Roger Federer – Rolex 1908 in oro bianco e quadrante nero
The legendary tennis player, who has always been a face of Rolex, chose to wear the brand new Reference 52508, included in the crowned house’s catalog this year. It is in fact a “dress watch,” perfect for wearing with a tuxedo. Class is not water and, on this occasion, Roger distinguished himself with a classic and elegant choice. Jeremy Strong – Richard Mille RM 07-04
The U.S. actor chose a sporty Richard Mille model with a green case and pink strap. A “special” choice, like the rest of his look, considering that it is a model from Richard Mille’s women’s line. Ergonomic and ultra-lightweight, it is a timepiece specifically designed for sports.
Nicole Kidman – Vintage Omega
The Australian actress went for an ethereal look, choosing the same dress she wore in the famous Chanel No. 5 perfume commercial in 2004. To enrich this outfit, a lovely and very precious Omega that belongs to the archives of the Maison and is even part of the Omega museum. Slender strap, minimal case, this timepiece perfectly matches Kidman’s dreamy look.
Jackson Wang – Cartier Tank Cintrée Skeleton
The singer and TV host chose this superb model from Cartier (Ref. WHTA0009), a limited edition of only 100 pieces, which stands out against a total black look. This timepiece, in platinum, boasts a special skeleton and curved mechanism, which follows the shape of the case, adapting perfectly to the wrist. Sublime!
James McAvoy – Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Chronograph 2023 in rose gold
The British actor sports a look that, with mysterious black fan, pays homage to Kaiser Lagerfeld (used to use such an accessory). Stunning is James McAvoy’s watch of choice, a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph in rose gold (Ref. Q389257J), which features an hour and minute display on its two dials with contrasting and complementary styles. The first dial sports the aesthetic codes of the Tribute line: iconic fluting, “chemin de fer” minute track, applied hour markers, and Dauphine hands that stand out against the black sunray dial. When tipped back into its brancard, the watch reveals a skeletonized second dial that reveals the new Manufacture Caliber 860 and retrograde chronograph mechanism.
Nick Jonas – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph
The US actor and singer walked the Met Gala red carpet accompanied by Priyanka Chopra, both in Valentino. On Nick Jonas’ wrist we find an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph with a gray dial and 38 mm case.
Eileen Gu – IWC Automatic Portofino Pink Day & Night 34
In the case of American skier and model Eileen Gu, not one but two watches enrich her romantic outfit. On her wrist, the model wears a rose gold IWC Automatic Portofino with diamond set, while she carries a rose gold pocket watch with jumping hours and minutes and small seconds. It is an unusual modern pocket watch, a tribute to the iconic Pallweber.
Kim Jones – Rolex Pre-Daytona 6238
Designer Kim Jones showed off the Rolex “Cosmograph” Ref. 6238. This is a special model because the watch with this reference was the first chronograph of modern conception made by Rolex. For this very reason it is known among collectors by the appellation of Pre-Daytona.
There is a bit of Italy in this shot, even if you can’t see it. In fact, very reliable sources have confirmed to us that this watch was bought by Kim Jones himself in Milan during Fashion Week.
Russell Westbrook – Patek Philippe Nautilus Pavé Sapphire (aftermarket)
Russel, Russel… perché?
Il cestista NBA statunitense non è decisamente un seguace del “less is more”! Al Met Gala ha infatti sfoggiato un look che, fra perle, stampe e fiocchi, sicuramente ha fatto parlare di sé. Non da meno il segnatempo che ha scelto, un Patek Philippe Nautilus con diamanti e zaffiri non factory ma frutto di una customizzazione di Greg Yuna.
Michael Kors – Rolex Submariner 14060
In keeping with tradition, the designer wears a black tuxedo paired with a classic Rolex Submariner 14060. Reference 14060 is the first modern Submariner reference that replaced the historic ref. 5513 in the early 1990s.
Michelle Yeoh Richard Mille 07-01 Pavé
The Oscar-winning actress chooses a model from the Maison for which she is an ambassador. It is the Richard Mille 07-01 in platinum and baguette-cut diamonds, which goes well with the black-and-white look she sported for the event.
Simu Liu – Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ref. 4500V
Simu Liu chose a total black look and a very elegant and simple Vacheron Constantin model with a black strap, featuring a design that pays homage to the Maltese cross, one of the watchmaker’s emblems.
Stormzy – Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711/110P-001
British rapper Stormzy sported a special floral look (a tribute to the camellia, a symbol of Chanel, a maison to which Lagerfeld was linked), matching a Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711/110P-001. These were special, out-of-catalogue models that Patek Philippe reserved for its customers. Specifically, this one was introduced in 2019 and discontinued along with the other 5711 references in 2021.
Pusha T – Rolex Day-Date 40mm Ref. 228349RBR
Not exactly an understated look the one chosen by US rapper, Pusha T. Let’s just say that only the wrist is saved, where a superb white gold Day-Date stands out, with a silver dial, full brilliant diamond set and president bracelet. We recall for the record that last year at Watches & Wonders, Rolex introduced a platinum variant of this same watch with reference 228346.
Bella Ramsey – Hublot Big Bang
British actress, Bella Ramsey, made famous by her role as Lyanna Mormont in the series “Game of Thrones” and definitely rose to fame with the role of Ellie in “The Last Of Us,” completes her look with a Hublot Big Bang (Ref. 361.SE.2010.RW.1104) in steel and diamonds, with a white strap.
