The latest addition to the Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms family ventures into extraterrestrial territories. Joining the already celebrated five watches of the series, which have embraced the oceans of our planet, Ocean Of Storms brings a touch of mystery that goes beyond our world.
The sixth watch in the Blancpain X Swatch collaboration is dedicated to Oceanus Procellarum, the largest sea on the Moon, and thus has been aptly named “Ocean Of Storms.”
Ocean of Storms
The new Blancpain X Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms is constructed identically to its three predecessors, Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean. It features the same indices, date indication, and lacks the “No Rad” icon or permeability meter. The most striking difference is the dominant black color that envelops the entire watch, except for the indices and hands.
On the back, as with the other Blancpain X Swatch watches, we find once again a tribute to a nudibranch. This time it’s the Okenia Luna. A white, round-shaped creature with a jagged, luminescent edge, it resembles the Moon.
The water resistance, up to 91 meters like the previous 5 models, is a respectful nod to Blancpain’s history.
Availability and Price
The new Blancpain x Swatch is available from January 11, 2024, the day of the new moon, priced at 400 euros. As with the other models, the sales policy is one watch per person, per store, per day.
Conclusion
When we think of the Moon, only one watch comes to mind: the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. This latest version of the Scuba Fifty Fathoms almost seems like a fun crossover between the two Swatch Group brands, taking the Moon as a reference point on one hand but the element of the sea on the other. An interesting and fun mix, which is precisely the goal of the entire project of collaborations between Swatch and the luxury brands of the Swatch Group.
