Bugatti has just unveiled its new model, the successor to the Veyron and Chiron, which have enjoyed enormous success among automotive enthusiasts over the years. This new model, called the Bugatti Tourbillon, takes up and revisits the design of the company’s previous cars, keeping true to the iconic Bugatti lines.
Under the familiar exterior, the new Bugatti Tourbillon combines a 1,000-horsepower naturally aspirated V16 engine, designed entirely by Cosworth, with three electric motors, achieving a total output of 1,800 horsepower. Performance is extraordinary: top speed limited to 445 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 300 km/h in just 9 seconds. Only 250 examples will be produced, all of which have already been sold, with a starting price of 3.8 million euros net.
But what links this stunning hypercar to the world of watches that we love so much? First, the name Bugatti Tourbillon clearly recalls watchmaking, as explained by Rimac in several interviews. The car pays homage to this passion in several ways, the most obvious of which is its fascinating instrument panel.
To provide the driver with all the necessary information while driving, an instrument panel was created according to the standards of excellence of Swiss watchmaking. Through collaboration with Concepto, a well-known creator of watch gauges, including those in the Jacob & Co x Bugatti collection, an instrument panel consisting of more than 600 parts, entirely analog, richly decorated, with exposed wheels and pinions and ruby bearings, typical features of our precious timepieces, was born.
Jacob & Co Bugatti Tourbillon
Jacob & Co has once again created a model inspired by Bugatti cars, solidifying the strong connection with the automotive brand. In past years, the Chiron-inspired model has attracted great interest for the brand, thanks to numerous configurations often embellished with precious stones or colored sapphire cases.
To celebrate the new Bugatti Tourbillon, Jacob & Co launched a new watch, also available in 250 units, in parallel with the car’s production, priced at $340,000.
This watch immediately catches the eye thanks to the miniaturized V16 engine visible inside, which, when activated, displays the movement of each cylinder. The top of the watch features three small dials that directly recall the instrument panel of the Bugatti Tourbillon.
The dial on the left houses a 30-second flying tourbillon, while the center dial displays the hours and minutes in retrograde mode, evoking the classic movement of dashboard hands for engine revolutions and speed. Finally, the third dial on the right indicates the power reserve of the watch and the internal “engine.”
Final Thoughts
From my point of view, the collaboration between these two brands represents an excellent meeting point between the automotive and watchmaking worlds, allowing both to draw inspiration from each other and adopt new technical and stylistic choices. The extraordinary mechanical counters for the car and the miniaturization of the engine inside the watch are perfect examples of this.
This synergy not only attracts collectors from one of the two worlds to discover and become passionate about the other, thanks to their similarities, but also represents a source of innovation. I am convinced that this collaboration will continue to give rise to new style choices destined to become timeless, strengthening the link between these two universes of excellence.
