H. Moser & Cie. celebrates the opening of two new boutiques in Hong Kong and Shanghai with a surprise. The company has launched an exclusive version of its Streamliner Flyback Chronograph watch, made in red gold and fitted with a rubber strap. This new look will be available only in select boutiques and online.
Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic
The Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic is a watch that stands out for its unique design. It is a collection that the brand has gotten right on the mark, riding the contemporary taste of collectors to the fullest. The success of the collection led the house to offer several iterations again this year. After the first time-only Streamliner with a green dial, one with a “smoked salmon” dial was launched a few months ago (Article: Moser Streamliner Center Seconds Smoked Salmon), and shortly after, the maison announced a 2.0 version of the incredible Flyback chronograph.
The new Boutique Edition
Now, with this new red gold version, Moser presents a new and very distinctive iteration of the collection’s most iconic complication. The use of red gold and the addition of the rubber strap gives it a very distinctive look compared to previous Streamliners… perhaps losing that extra touch given by the Streamliner’s classic integrated bracelet. But hey, it’s summer… who wants a heavy piece of gold that makes your wrist sweat when you can have a fresh and cool rubber strap? This might have been the thought process at Moser and we agree.
As with version 2.0 of the Flyback Chronograph, the brand logo, made with a thin transparent lacquer, is almost imperceptible. This is a gimmick Moser has already accustomed us to, with the aim of making the brand’s most important product. The new Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic Boutique Edition retains all the features that have made it popular, including water resistance to 12 ATM and a chronograph function that can also be used underwater. The only downside, as already mentioned is the absence of the integrated bracelet, replaced by the rubber strap, which is certainly more suitable for summer. As you may have guessed, I like the bracelet of the Streamliner line all too much!
The 5N red gold case, remains faithful in proportions to previous models at 42 mm in diameter and 14.2 mm thick. On the Matrix Green dial, seconds are measured by the red and white outer chapter ring, while the inner chapter ring indicates minutes. The three-dimensional number 60 at 12 o’clock recalls the chronometers of the 1960s and 1970s, when legibility and functionality were paramount. Thin hands, inspired by the counters on cars and measuring instruments, ensure impeccable accuracy.
The seconds hand is red, while the hour and minute hands are gold-plated and three-dimensional, made of an innovative material containing Super-LumiNova® for better legibility.
The caliber
The watch, like its close relatives, is powered by the caliber HMC 907, developed by AGENHOR, a partner of H. Moser & Cie. This watch also features the same refinements made in the version of the Flyback 2.0 Chronograph presented at the end of May 2023. Modern finishes, with Moser’s characteristic 45-degree “côtes” and an anthracite gray rhodium plating on the bridges and mainplate. The oscillating weight has been positioned so that the operation of the chronograph and its column wheel can be observed through the sapphire case back.
Our opinion
In conclusion, H. Moser & Cie. celebrates the opening of its new boutiques in Hong Kong and Shanghai with an unprecedented and exclusive version of its Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic watch, reserved for the brand’s boutiques and online. The combination of 5N red gold and Matrix Green is a very unique and in some ways aesthetically difficult solution. For those who love the incredible Streamliner’s bracelet slick design, unfortunately this one is equipped with a rubber strap. However, the choice is completely understandable given that the watch is being introduced during the summer season. Who knows, maybe they will introduce a version with an integrated bracelet before winter?
