Since its relaunch in 2005, H. Moser & Cie. has always stood out for its completely unique creations, both in terms of design and technical solutions.
At the same time, however, in style with its own motto of “irreverent haute horlogerie,” the maison over the years has created watches that go totally beyond the conventional.
In fact, just think of the Swiss Alp Watch or the Swiss Mad with a cheese case, to name a couple, the result of real provocations that the manufacture has launched with reference to different themes.
And it is with this irreverent “style” that the maison decided to present today a new version of the Streamliner Centre Seconds giving it a completely unique dial that the house itself called “smoked salmon.”
Announcing the Smoked Salmon
To announce this new watch, I would say that Moser really nailed it. In particular, as is usual for Moser, I found the communication brilliant and funny.
A few days before the announcement of the new model, H. Moser CEO Edouard Meylan had posted a photo on his instagram profile depicting fishing hooks. Surely Meylan’s friends were not surprised since he has always been a lover and expert in fly fishing.
However, from the various comments under the post by fans of the house, one could immediately read different assumptions about what might have been a new model and that the fish hooks were clues.
Then Edouard Meylan, in the full irreverent communicative style that is the maison’s hallmark, published another post featuring himself as a fisherman and with a caption that opened up further speculation about a possible new model. At this point there were two hypotheses: either Meylan was really getting ready to go fishing or he was simply giving us clues about a new watch.
The second hypothesis is one that has been confirmed with the release of the Moser Streamliner Centre Seconds, which features a smoky dial inspired by the color of smoked salmon.
Moser Streamliner Centre Second Smoked Salmon
With this new variant with a completely unique quadrane, Moser enriches the catalog of one of its most successful models, namely the Streamliner.
A worthy successor to the previous model nicknamed “Green Dragon” because of the fantastic and hypnotic green color of its dial, the new Streamliner Centre Second Smoked Salmon represents the perfect sports watch with a vintage soul because of its design.
In fact, the watch takes inspiration from the early high-speed trains of the 1920s and 1930s (from which the name “Streamliner” is also inspired) whose shapes are recalled by the 40mm-diameter cushion-shaped steel case.
Shapes that are also echoed by the integrated steel bracelet that blends with the case without lugs making the watch appear as one.
On the edge of the 12.1 mm thick case (including glass), one can see the hollowed and satin-finished shapes of the case middle alternating with the brushed and polished surfaces.
Below the domed sapphire crystal is the real novelty of this model, which is the smoked salmon-colored griffé-finished dial that changes according to the movement of the wrist, going from chocolate to gold through different shades.
However, this is not a “simple” smoked salmon but a very rare variant of it, namely the Oncorhynchus kisutch, a specimen that is left to mature in total freedom and massaged daily by specialists with an herbal oil harvested from the Himalayan slopes.
This salmon, which feeds only on crustaceans previously digested by pink flamingos, is then smoked thanks to a secret recipe based on Scotch whiskey that can give it that typical color that we also find on the dial of the new Streamliner.
Through the sapphire crystal opening in the case back, the in-house automatic caliber HMC 200 can be seen. It is a movement decorated with Moser’s double côtes and embellished with the large engraved solid gold oscillating weight.
What we think about it
With this new version of its Streamliner Centre Second, Moser has certainly introduced a rather unusual and original dial watch. Personally, I have to admit that, as trivial as it may seem to many of you, I would have expected a traditional salmon-colored dial and perhaps would have preferred it. However, I must also say that such a choice, from a maison that never does anything “banal,” would have been rather expected and perhaps less appreciated. So once again Moser remains true to its DNA and this can only be a great merit.
Price and availability
The new Moser Streamliner Centre Second Smoked Salmon will only be produced for one year and its list price will be CHF 19,900, corresponding to about EUR 20,200.
