Cartier debuts with a new Cartier Pebble limited edition. 50 years after the presentation of this particular watch, the Maison has decided to re-propose an exceptional series of only 150 pieces.

1972: The origins

The 70s were fundamental for the development of the watchmaking we see today, precisely 1972 is the year of the creation of iconic watches from various brands, such as the Cartier Pebble in this case. London was the favorite city for these sophisticated designs, under the creative guidance of Jaques Cartier the coveted and mysterious Crash also originated, just 5 years earlier.

The name “Pebble” derives simply from the meaning of the word, which is used in the case of those thin and round stones which are often played with to make them jump on the surface of the water.

In addition to this nickname, collectors have also called it “Baseball”, precisely because of the shape that could be reminiscent of the playing field of this sport. In total, only 6 watches are said to have been produced in all of history, which underlines its rarity and historical significance. Right below we also note that some specimens differed in some stylistic traits, such as the absence of the Chemin de Fer, the graduated trace in the dial.

The new Cartier Pebble celebrates its 50th anniversary

The new Cartier Pebble debuts on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. For the occasion, the Maison has slightly revisited some details of the watch, such as the size (the new one is slightly larger than the original 35.5mm) and the dial (the font of the Cartier writing is different and the writing “has been added” Swiss Made “).

At the level of the tone of the dial, says the Director of Image, Style and Heritage, Pierre Rainero, we do not have a pure white, but a “blanc cassé” color, that is, more tending to cream. A choice that certainly makes the watch more faithful to its vintage.
