This year the much-loved Olympics will be staged and once again Omega will be, for the 30th time since 1932, the official timekeeper of the Olympics. This is a collaboration that goes much deeper than just a partnership and if you are curious to know more about it we have talked about it extensively in one of our articles.
Now, however, back to us and what we like best, which is watches. On the occasion of the upcoming Olympic Games to be held in Paris, to mark 100 days since the start, the maison has launched two new versions of the Speedmaster Chronoscope collection. Let’s discover them in detail together!
The Chronoscope Collection
The Chronoscope collection was introduced more than two years ago now by Omega and has been a huge success, at least as far as we are concerned. If you have been following us for a while, in fact, you know how pleasantly surprised we were by the launch.
A modern watch that takes ample inspiration from vintage dials with pulsometric, telemetric and tachymeter scales all on the same watch. All presented in a highly legible yet charmingly rich manner.
The New Chronoscope Paris 2024
Today the collection is enriched with two new models in four different variants, in honor of the 100 days remaining until the start of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Dial
The four new variants share the same white dial with double black subdials; we could call it a Panda but with only two subdials. The white opaline dial also features the scales, arranged as for the rest of the collection, in the classic spiral shape of 1940s watches.
The dial then features 18K Moonshine Gold Arabic hour markers and Moonshine Gold-plated hour, minute, seconds and sub-dial spheres. The black sub-dials are distinguished in turn by gold-colored inserts, echoing the rest of the dial details.
The Stainless Steel Models
Despite having exactly the same dial, the variants first differ in the metal of the case and bracelet
The first variant has the traditional 43 mm steel case, as well as the iconic Speedmaster bracelet. In the stainless steel version, the bezel with the tachymeter scale inserts is made of anodized aluminum.
Rotating the watch, we find the Paris Olympics logo embossed on the stainless steel caseback, underscoring the connection to the momentous event. Inside the 43mm stainless steel case beats the hand-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9908 movement, certified by METAS to ensure the highest standards of precision, in keeping with the timekeeping activities Omega will perform during the event. The watch’s water resistance of 50m is then visible on the case back.
The Chronoscope Paris 2024 in steel will also be sold on a perforated calfskin strap.
Moonshine Gold Models
The other two versions produced for the Paris 2024 Olympics are in 18K Moonshine Gold, the proprietary gold alloy developed by Omega a few years ago and now used extensively in its models. Thanks to its special composition, this alloy has greater strength and luster than traditional yellow gold.
In the Moonshine Gold 18k version, the bezel with the tachymeter scale is not anodized aluminum, but ceramic with a black insert and gold details.
Also in this version, turning the watch over, we see an embossed engraving of the Paris 2024 Olympics logo and the water resistance, which, also for the Moonshine Gold version, stands at 50m. In this case, the movement housed inside the case is the METAS-certified Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9909. The guaranteed power reserve is 60 hours.
The version with an 18K Moonshine Gold case is also offered with a black calfskin strap with white embroidery stitches.
