Created with the aim of creating a versatile watch, able to make the world of technical diving interact with urban sophistication, Rolex’s cousin presented the new Tudor Pelagos 39: a grade 2 titanium diver with a 39 mm diameter case.
Long awaited by many fans of the Geneva Maison, this new Pelagos is characterized by the brightness of the sunray satin finishes on the bezel and dial.
A worthy heir to the technical diving models of the Pelagos family, this new watch embodies all of Tudor’s savoir faire in diver watches, making it, at the same time, compact and versatile.
The case of the Tudor Pelagos 39
The 39 mm diameter satin-finished case is made of grade 2 titanium.
In perfect combination with it we find the bright bezel insert, made of black ceramic with a sunray satin finish, with a graduated scale in white luminescent material.
The diameter of the bezel slightly exceeds the middle case to ensure maximum grip.
The screw-down winding crown with the Tudor logo is positioned at 3 o’clock, which guarantees water resistance up to 200 meters. Attention, it does not mean that you can dive to a depth of 200m. (See our guide to water resistance for watches to learn more)
The dial of the Tudor Pelagos 39
The dial is made up of a flat sun-rayed satin disc whose subtle sheen contrasts with the matte finish of the 45 ° conical flange.
Above it are the applied hour markers made of luminescent monobloc composite ceramic.
The “Snowflake” hands, one of the Tudor hallmarks, are covered with Super-LumiNova luminescent material.
Finally, at 6 o’clock, the name Pelagos stands out in glossy cherry red which gives the black dial a fascinating contrast.
The caliber of the new Tudor Pelagos 39
This new Pelagos has been equipped with the in-house caliber MT5400, a self-winding movement with a “weekend-proof” 70-hour power reserve, allowing the wearer to take off the watch on Friday night and put it back on. on Monday morning without having to charge it.
Thanks to the construction of a variable inertia balance wheel and non-magnetic silicon hairspring, this caliber has been certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Control (COSC).
The performance of this movement goes beyond the COSC standards of -4 and +6 seconds per day, guaranteeing a daily deviation of between -2 and +4 seconds.
The bracelet of the new Tudor Pelagos 39
The new Pelagos 39 is completed by a fully satin-finished titanium bracelet, featuring a Tudor “T-fit” clasp for quick length adjustment.
This system allows you to make a precise adjustment of the total length of the bracelet along an adjustment window of 8 millimeters.
In addition to this adjustment we find the 25 mm bracelet extension function that allows you to wear the watch over a diving suit.
In addition to the titanium bracelet, the Pelagos 39 comes with a second black rubber strap, with a titanium pin buckle.
Our opinion
With this new Pelagos, Tudor has created a watch that immediately received praise from the entire world of enthusiasts.
Equipped with an incredible lightness, thanks to the titanium case and bracelet, it is extremely comfortable on the wrist, also thanks to the 39 mm diameter which, in my opinion, are perfect for this watch.
The dial, simple but well made, is easy to read under all types of light conditions. Excellent use of Super-LumiNova luminescent material, as well as on the indexes and hands, on the bezel which guarantees easy reading of the watch even in the dark with a really pleasant color.
