In the lead up to Watches & Wonders 2021, Hermès has just announced their new watch, the Slim QP, and today, we’re going to talk to you all about it!
If you didn’t know, after this article, you surely will!
Watchmaking at Hermès
Truth be told, we don’t often talk about this heritage brand, which is mostly associated with leather goods and silk. However, I find that there is actually a lot to tell, especially since it is creating its own recognizable aesthetic canon, which is not common these days.
In my opinion, we can immediately notice this unicity by looking carefully at the fonts, chromatic contrasts and the stylistic choices that Hermès have made…
Unbeknownst to many, the horological history of Hermès is nothing new, in fact, quite the opposite! By clicking here, you can read our article in which we recount the story of the brand. Believe me, there are some real hidden gems…
The new Slim d’Hermès QP
As we wait for other releases during Watches&Wonders 2021, Hermès has presented this wonderfully complicated piece, with its two variants.
In both cases we have a visionary combination: titanium and a noble metal (platinum or rose gold). I very much appreciate this – almost synaesthetic – combination, and I find that it is a direct result of an excellent taste and, above all, of the desire to propose something distinct and new.
These interesting choices are consistent throughout the whole piece. Take the dial, for example: I love the font chosen for the numerals, and their position at six o’clock even more so. Brilliant ..!
The indicators of the perpetual calendar complication are all clear and legible. My favourite aspect of this dial is how the asymmetrical numerals actually somehow create a sense of symmetry, and how they bring a balance to the dial. Completing the picture, we have the moon-phase complication: a beautiful blend of mother of pearl and aventurine.
What else? I can’t wait to try this watch on my wrist. Aesthetically intriguing, ultra-thin, and totally in-house: we all need to be talking about Hermès more…
