Silvio Berlusconi left us on June 12, 2023, at the age of 86. An undisputed protagonist of Italian business, politics, soccer and custom, he is undoubtedly one of the figures who have forever marked the history of our country.
We at Italian Watch Spotter, of course, will say goodbye in our own way with an excursus on some of Silvio Berlusconi’s watches that he has worn throughout his incredible life.
Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar
In this shot, Silvio Berlusconi is wearing an Audemars Piguet equipped with one of the most sophisticated complications, the perpetual calendar. Perpetual calendar watches also recognize leap year; the date only needs to be changed in years officially recognized as leap years but not divisible by 400 and thus 2100, 2400, etc.
Specifically, the model worn by Berlusconi is the reference 5548, which mounts caliber 2120/2800 and was produced until 1990, in less than 3,000 pieces and in different variants. With a round case, baton hour markers, and an extremely reduced thickness, this model is considered a one-of-a-kind timepiece, sought after by all sophisticated collectors.
Patek Philippe Minute Repeater Tourbillon ref. 3939
In this shot, Berlusconi is wearing a beautiful hand-wound yellow gold Patek Philippe with a 33 mm round case. Again, Silvio Berlusconi’s predilection for a round case stands out.
Equipped with the caliber RTO27PS, this highly complicated model features a minute repeater function and a tourbillon. The hours are indicated by gold Breguet numerals. The strap is black crocodile leather.
Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 3514/8
On this occasion, Berlusconi sported Patek Philippe’s legendary Calatrava, in the yellow gold version typical of the 1960s. This watch was created in 1932 and named after the Spanish military order of Calatrava, founded in the 12th century.
This model has a 34 mm round water-resistant 18K yellow gold case and baton hour markers, with a date at 3 o’clock. The strap, which wraps sinuously around the wrist, is also made of yellow gold. Berlusconi’s Calatrava houses a cal. 27-460 M automatic movement.
Round Cartier Panthère ref. 1057920
A Cartier model cannot be missing from Silvio Berlusconi’s collection. This one is equipped with a round case while the current Panthère line has a square case.
This watch shows blue gladius-shaped hands and the classic cabochon winding crown. This is a model that is both simple and classic. The hours are indicated by Roman numeral hour markers, and the date is at 3 o’clock. In this case, the movement is quartz-based, and the material exploits the classic steel and gold combination.
