On the occasion of the Monaco 2023 Formula One Grand Prix, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, Tag Heuer has decided to unveil three new versions of its iconic square-case watch.
These are three new chronograph watches with a skeletonized dial – actually, one in three different colorways – that encapsulate all the racing DNA that has distinguished this cult of sports watchmaking since the 1960s.
Let us now go on to find out all the details of the three different versions within this article.
The new Tag Heuer Monaco skeleton dial
For lovers of speed and the world of motorsports, Tag Heuer has decided to present three new watches with a great show this year. The new skeletonized Monaco chronographs were unveiled on the occasion of the highly prestigious 80th Monaco Grand Prix. The backdrop for the three watches was a weekend full of speed and the roar of Formula One single-seaters.
Introduced in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco has always been regarded as one of the most iconic watches in history. Partly, this success is due to the fact that it was worn by actor Steve McQueen in the 1971 film “Le Mans”.
This year, for the first time in the model’s history, Heuer’s iconic in-house chronograph is presented with a brand-new skeleton dial in three different versions: “Original Blue”, “Racing Red”, and “Turquoise.”
The choice of dial colors was not left to chance, in fact Tag Heuer, for the “Original Blue” dial version, took inspiration directly from the blue of the first TAG Heuer Monaco in history. Contrasting with the blue details of the skeleton dial are the chronograph counter spheres and the central seconds hand.
The second model, called “Racing Red,” encapsulates the Monaco collection’s racing DNA. The red indexes and spheres, recalling the sparks of track racing, contrast with the black details of the skeleton dial.
The Turquoise, on the other hand, is the third watch that completes the collection and offers a modern take on TAG Heuer’s Monaco design. The turquoise color of the dial details, chosen as a nod to the Monaco coastline, perfectly contrasts the black color that dominates the watch.
Similarly to the other two models, the chronograph hands and the seconds hand are red in full racing style. Located at 9 and 3 o’clock are the hour and minute chronograph counters, while the date window stands out at 6 o’clock. The chronograph functions of these three new watches are operated by pushers located at 2 and 4 o’clock on the case.
The latter, in all three models, has a diameter of 47.4 mm and is made through the use of sandblasted grade 2 titanium, which, in the “Turquoise” model, differs by a black DLC treatment.
Through the sapphire crystal case back, on the other hand, it is possible to observe the in-house Heuer 02 automatic movement characterized by the engraved oscillating weight above which are details matching the color of the visible parts of the dial.
Complementing the design of these three sports watches are bi-material straps, designed with a combination of rubber and leather that have been made in the same color as the main details of the watch.
