On the occasion of the 107th edition of the Giro d’Italia, which this year sees Tudor as the competition’s Official Time Keeper, the Le Locle-based manufacturer unveiled a completely unexpected watch.

We welcome the new Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition,” a high-performance timepiece created specifically for use aboard performance racing bikes.

So, helmet strapped on and let’s mount up to go find out all the details of the watch within this article.

The New Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition”

In the full spirit of “Born to Give,” Tudor, in recent years, has always dared to stand side by side with the entire sports world.

From the sea to the road, the Le Locle-based maison, for the first time since the creation of its own cycling team, namely the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, is participating in the highly prestigious Giro d’Italia this year.

Tudor Pro Cycling Team

This is a race famous to the entire cycling world and beyond, which for this its 107th edition, starting from Venaria Reale, in Pimento and, finishing in Rome, will see athletes compete over a total of 3 400.8 km divided into 21 stages.

For the much-anticipated event of the year from the cycling world, Tudor, in addition to being chosen as the Official Time Keeper for the entire race, presented the new Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition.”

It is a watch specially designed and made for the athletes of their team, who will wear it during the different stages of the race on their racing bikes.

Part of the now iconic Pelagos collection, i.e., Tudor’s first line to introduce titanium on its timepieces, this new watch, dedicated to cycling, features the famous fixed lugs already seen on different models in the collection.

This is a watch that, having already had the good fortune to try on my wrist, literally left me speechless.

What in fact, at first glance, may appear to be a “simple” all-black chronograph actually encapsulates a lot of research and spirit of innovation on the part of the house.

For those, however, who at this point were wondering if it will only be reserved for Tudor Pro Cycling Team riders, the answer is no…

Indeed, the good news for us enthusiasts is that this model, like all FXDs presented by the house, will be available for purchase at Tudor boutiques and dealers.

Looking closely at the matte black dial of this fantastic watch, with luminescent one-piece applied hour markers, the contrast of the black dial with the red counters and 45° flange flange immediately stands out.

And it is precisely on this dial element that the first functional element for cyclists desired by the house can be observed.

Unlike a traditional chronograph, in fact, we find a tachymeter scale recalibrated and adapted to cyclists’ running speeds.

At 3 and 9 o’clock, however, are the chronograph counters as well as, at 6 o’clock, the date window.

Another detail that immediately catches the eye is the iconic central “Snowflake” hand accompanied by the chronograph minute and second hands.

On the outside of the dial, on the other hand, also black in color, we find the fixed 60-minute graduated bezel.

Turning instead to the case, what I believe to be the real “gem” of this model, the Le Locle-based company opted for a material that makes it highly durable and extremely light, on par with racing bikes.

It is in fact a matte black carbon composite case, 43 mm in diameter and with fixed bars for attaching the fabric strap, made on the nineteenth-century jacquard looms of the Julien Faure company of StEtienne.

Bringing life to this watch that will accompany Tudor team cyclists during their races, as well as every enthusiast during Sunday rides on their bikes, we find the now well-established manufacture caliber MT5813.

It is a self-winding, COSC-certified movement with a 70-hour power reserve.

Final Thoughts

A short time after the announcement of what has now become the watch of the moment, namely the Black Bay with pink dial, with the launch of the new Pelagos, completely unexpected, once again Tudor has fully hit the mark and, above all, talk a lot about itself.

Personally, I find the new Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” to be a really well-executed watch and, above all, a true “toolwatch” in line with the philosophy of the maison.

I greatly appreciate Tudor’s endeavor to create functional watches through the use of innovative and high-performance materials.

Having already had the opportunity to keep this new watch on my wrist for a while, I guarantee that if it already looks good in photos, in person it is truly stunning and trust me – almost impossible to dislike if you are a lover of sports watches.

I am sure that in the wake of these recent sports-related innovations, the fashion house, for the future, will have some really interesting surprises in store for us that will be talked about for a long time to come.
