Following the success of the rose gold and white gold versions of the Lange 1 with perpetual calendar, both of which were unveiled in 2021, the Saxon manufacture is unveiling a brand new version of the watch in platinum to the watchmaking world.
Let us now go on to find out all the details within this article.
Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar in Platinum
When we talk about complications in the world of watchmaking, we can assume that we are dealing with true works of human ingenuity enclosed within a rather small object capable of marking the passage of time above our wrists.
As much as the watch industry is fantastically populated by various complications, including some that can boast centuries of history behind them, the one that I believe to be the queen of all complications and, in some ways most fascinating, can only be the perpetual calendar.
The constant research and subsequent development of such a complication has enabled various watchmakers to develop some of the most innovative solutions ever.
In a world in which watchmaking is dominated by Switzerland, Germany, more specifically Saxony, has also managed to carve out a worthy place in the sun with regard to the development of a singular perpetual calendar thanks to the famous A. Lange & Söhne maison.
Indeed, the well-known manufacture, after introducing several models with such a complication, in 2021 presented what they claimed encapsulated the perpetual calendar concept within one of the house’s flagship watches, the Lange 1. Two years after that date, the house decided to dress the 41.9-millimeter-diameter case of the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar with one of the noblest materials ever, namely platinum.
Thanks to the fantastic contrast donated by the black dial, as well as the strap of the same color, the result is truly stunning. We are in fact in front of what I would consider to be one of the most elegant perpetual calendar watches ever. Looking at the dial you can see all the indications provided by this fascinating complication with which the new Lange 1 is equipped.
In the outer part is located the rotating ring above which the months of the year are indicated through the arrow located at 6 o’clock below the window by which the leap year is indicated. At 11 o’clock, on the other hand finds its place the grand date window above the weekday indicator that extends from 8 to 10 o’clock.
Taking center stage above the dial is the large counter on the right above which the hours and minutes are marked. Last, but by no means least, we find the subdial at 7 o’clock within which is enclosed the moon phase indicator. Built on two levels, the latter consists of a solid gold sky disc with a blue hue that rotates around its axis once every 24 hours.
Thanks to the unique mechanism developed by Lange, the moon is on the background of a monochromatic celestial sky during the day and on a dark blue starry sky in the evening, thus indicating the hours of day and night.

Inside the 12.1-millimeter-thick platinum case, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, is the hand-finished L021.3 caliber with a 50-hour power reserve. This veritable work of art is also embellished with a fantastic solid gold winding rotor with the manufacture’s name finished above it, also by hand.
