Not long ago we had the opportunity to delve into the Naoya Hida & Co. brand, its young history and the philosophy behind it in a dedicated article. Starting from concepts and designs strongly inspired by the watchmaking of the 1930s and 1940s, the brand has managed to establish itself thanks in part to an incredible attention to detail, typical ofJapanese craftsmanship.
As it does every year, the brand updates its line, offering fans the chance to register to buy one of the very rare examples produced. Suffice it to say that in the first seven years of operation, a total of about 300 watches were made.
In this article we take you on a tour of a brand first: a perpetual calendar, as well as show you updates of references already in the collection.
Naoya Hida Type 6A – The first perpetual calendar
The new centerpiece of Naoya Hida’s 2025 collection is, as anticipated, the type 6A perpetual calendar in steel: this is the first time the brand has tried its hand at a complication of this kind,.
Equipping it is the hand-wound caliber 3025PC with a power reserve of about 45 hours, developed in collaboration with two major haute horlogerie companies-Habring² and Dubois Dépraz.
The dial, as in some models already in the collection for years, is made of solid silver, a material chosen for its resistance to oxidation and excellent workability by hand. In fact, it is the ideal base for engravings by master Keisuke Kano, who handcrafts each element: from the brand name, to the hour markers, to the counters. The result is a dial with depth and character that few other brands can match.
The dial configuration follows a classic pattern for this complication:
– at 3 o’clock the day of the week display;
– at 6 o’clock the month and year (on a four-year cycle, to determine leap year);
– at 9 o’clock the day of the month.
The main hands, the hour and minute spheres, are made of yellow gold, providing an effective color contrast to the silver dial and other hands, which are made of blued steel.
The case back is exposed, a bold choice: the movement bridges cover much of the caliber, limiting the visibility of mechanical details. However, the workmanship and finish remain of a high standard, as expected from a collaboration of this caliber.
The price for this perpetual calendar is about 50,000 euros, yet only about ten will be produced over the next year.
NH Type 5A-1 & 3B-3
In addition to the big news of the perpetual calendar, part of the collection has also been updated, particularly two models.
The first is the Type 3, introduced in 2022, which in its new Type 3B-3 configuration introduces a yellow gold case, unlike the previous steel version. This has undoubtedly been one of the brand’s most popular watches and has contributed significantly to its international success, thanks in part to the moon phase at six o’clock, characterized by the contrast between the lapis lazuli disk and the hand-engraved gold moon.
Production is limited to five pieces within a year.
The recent NH Type 5A reference is also updated, albeit with a minimal change: in fact, it remains virtually unchanged, except for the glass, which changes from sapphire to acrylic, with a special processing designed to provide an interesting play of light with the dial.
In this case, production is estimated at ten examples for next year.
Conclusion
he Naoya Hida & Co brand has undoubtedly made a name for itself in recent years, and thanks to collection updates and even more so to the novelty of the perpetual calendar, it continues to tread the right path, carving out a prominent position for itself in both the Japanese and international arena.
Unfortunately, production remains very limited, which makes these timepieces all the more desirable.
