The long-awaited moment has come. Watches & Wonders kept us in suspense for no short time, but the time is finally right to admire the new releases of the maison!

Among the various watchmaking giants who presented their novelties, Cartier also delights us with several new releases, one of which is the reinterpretation in various versions of a historic model of the Parisian brand: it is the Cartier Pasha.

Officially born in the 1980s, shaped by the brilliant mind of Genta, the Pasha is inspired by a watch specially created by Cartier in 1943 for Thami El Glaoui, at the time the Pasha of Marrakesh and a regular customer of Cartier.

The Pasha de Cartier is a watch that harmoniously combines being luxurious with being technical, in fact it was born as a waterproof watch, which however does not give up the preciousness typical of this brand.

In 2022, on the occasion of the Watches & Wonders in Geneva, Cartier decided to give new life to this watch with different versions; let’s find out how!

The Pasha de Cartier Grille

One of the details that characterized the model originally made for Thami El Glaoui was the presence of a protective grille, placed over the front glass of the watch.

Cartier has reintroduced this detail on the new Pasha de Cartier, which take the name of Grille: an original refinement that not only gives greater strength to the watch, but brings to the present a unique detail that has made the history of this model.

The grille is revisited in a modern and innovative way: in fact, it is possible to remove the grille to obtain the classic Pasha design we are used to. A locking system consisting of four spring-loaded pawls keeps the grille stationary once inserted, ensuring its solid anchoring to the case.

There is a version with a 41 mm diameter case in 18-karat yellow gold, powered by the in-house automatic caliber 1847 MC which oscillates at 28800 vibrations per hour and with a power reserve of 42 hours. The jewel versions, on the other hand, with a 35 mm and 30 mm diameter case in yellow gold, with bezel and grille adorned with diamonds, are fitted with a quartz movement.

Complicated Pasha

Among the new versions presented, some Pasha with complications or complicated decorations make their appearance: a moon phase, a skeletonized and a flying torubillon.

Pasha Moonphase

The moon phase features a window at 6 o’clock for viewing the phases of the moon. The window stands out on the dial thanks to its concentric circles in blue, in contrast with the classic flinqué decoration of the dial. The Arabic numeral indexes for 3, 9 and 12 have a matte finish in blue color, the color echoed on the hands for hours and minutes.

They are offered with both 18-karat yellow gold and steel cases, both 41 mm in diameter. The two versions are powered by the 1904-LU MC caliber with a 48-hour power reserve.

Pasha skeleton

Even if the skeletonization of a movement is not a real complication, there is no denying how complicated it is to make a skeletonized movement.

Cartier has decided to adopt this particular layout for one of its new releases: animated by the caliber 9624 MC, this watch combines the classic design of the Pasha with oversized cardinal indexes and square minuterie with the freshness and modernity of a skeletonized movement.

In addition to the limited version in white gold and baguette diamonds, here it comes a steel version with black ADLC treatment performed on the 41 mm case, the bridges and hands are treated with Superluminova®.

Pasha flying tourbillon

Rounding out the complicated trio is a version of the Pasha equipped with a flying tourbillon. The tourbillon is certainly one of the most fascinating complications in the world of watchmaking: Cartier has customized the balance wheel cage with his C, while allowing it to act as a second hand.

Also in this case, the 18-karat yellow gold case is 41 mm, while the 9552 MC movement is manually wound with a 50-hour power reserve.

Pasha with grey dial

Two new Pashas were also presented with a particular dial coloring, which creates a beautiful chromatic harmony in shades of gray and blue. In fact, the anthracite dial highlights the blue color of the hands and cabochons on the crown and pushers, while the white indexes recall the polished steel case.

In this color, both a time-only version and central seconds as well as a chronograph version have been proposed, both with a 41 mm steel case.

All Pasha watches are equipped with the QuickSwitch quick release system to easily change straps and bracelets.
